Just heard that Wes Oakley passed away Sunday, March 3, at the age of 95.

We believe his last race may have been at the age of 89. Wes was a colorful character and always had a story to tell. We never heard him say badly of anyone. He always looked forward to coming to the races and never wanted any help unloading that mini-van.

He talked about the passing of his wife, Mary, and you could tell he really loved her and missed her. He said after her passing, he found money in a Bible with a note saying she wanted him to continue racing. His devoted daughter, Jan, came with him in later years.

There are no services planned (cremation), but watch kart.org for future announcements.

    Keep on kartin'. llb

I see that John Crider has started a discussion on FB about Wes Oakley’s passing if anyone wants to check it out. Hope this works.

Linda, you couldn’t have put it any better!!! Wes was one of the nicest guys in karting. Even at 89, he was very competitive and always enjoyed being at the track visiting with the racers.

    RIP Wes!!!
