Here in Wisconsin its cool outside and there is that white looking stuff falling occasionally from the sky and all over the ground making a mess of things causing the karting season to go into hibernation here in the midwest. So, for Steve, my dad, it is building season. Steve is going back in time to around 1975 restoring a Mk XI, left side engine mount, sidewinder, Blackhawk. This is something that came from Don Fairman’s creative mind out of Brodhead, Wisconsin and the now histo<span class=”text_exposed_show”>ric kart track Sugar River Raceway.
Steve raced this model of kart back then in Wisconsin at a number of different tracks. I was pretty young and have a few memories of it. This kart design is one of the most unique and cool looking chassis’ out there. With that we have part 1 of our next vintage kart build/restoration video series, the Restoration of the Blackhawk Mk XI.
This is Part 2 of the Blackhawk Mk XI sidewinder restoration videos. Starting the assembling process of the kart. Its like a mad 3D jigsaw puzzle with heim joints. Steve enjoying work and also filming, with aluminum welding assistance by Rick Magnuson. https://youtu.be/pVyurHmxIy0
