      The announcer kept saying that, it was funny. Does anyone else think Jim Nabors gave blue collar mechanics a black eye by portraying them as retards on the Andy Griffith show?

      #1, Gomer was only a pump jockey…he was never portrayed as a mechanic. Yes he wore a uniform, but there was no self serve then, and they cleaned windshields and checked under the hood. He may have fixed Opie’s bike tire once or twice, though.

      I should be grandfathered in since I was around when retard was PC and the term PC wasn’t around. I think they’re called differently abled now? I’ve seen shows where he was doing mechanic stuff. Gear heads aren’t stupid because their clothes are dirty, machines are greasy.
