Just wondering who listens to music while focusing/meditating/relaxing (or pumping yourself up, if that’s your thing.) before a race?
If so, what’s your music of choice?
I personally prefer Miles Davis.

Our theme song on the way to the track is “Superfreak” by Rick James.
We also like to listen to all the hard hitting MJ hits like “Dirty Diana”, “Billie Jean”, “PYT”, “Thriller”, “Smooth Criminal” etc. And that’s what we name our Leopard engines after.
I have my own 80 song playlist on my iPod that I have titled “Battle Soundtrack” to get me pumped up on the way to the track or before I go out. Lots of really soaring anthemic rock stuff, some self-motivational-no-one-can-touch-me hip-hop and other things.

No need. There is no music better than the sound of my engine turning over.

Just getting ready the days before & getting up in the morning does. It is the ritual I guess.
Any music I like will do:

I like this video as far as driving. Something about it just gets me going:
We race near the end of the cycle of classes. Plenty of time to hear the sounds and smell the castor. Plus the track plays music over the P.A.

Blaney, I knew you would remember that.
A lifelong albulm playlist that I heard going to the racetrack year after year
Styx – Pieces of Eight
Eagles – Hotel California
Eagles – On the Boarder
Alabama – Can’t remember but it was mostly 80s songs
Def Leppard – Hysteria
Blues Brothers – Briefcase Full of BluesOthers have been added, but anytime I hear those songs, I think of the trips to the track with the family.

I’m usually on the road about 6:00 a.m., so its classical music for the first hour or so.
Then a wide variety of thumping guitar stuff. Hendrix, Cream, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, etc.
Sorry, no 1980’s hair bands.

Good selection, David Cole…we would get along well on the road.
My favs always in my head during a race are taken from the Top Gun soundtrack:
Playin’ with the Boys & Danger Zone
This was especially so when we raced the Air Force base in Las Vegas – pretty cool watching the Blue Angels do fly overs while on the track as well!
