I am looking at a replacement helmet for multiple uses. I am looking at SA2010 helmets but are they good for karting? I see some regulations which say Snell 2005 or newer but I know there is a k2010 standard as well. If someone has documentation or a link that specifically says SA2010 is fine, let me know. Thanks.
Yes, Sa2010 is good and will be good til at least 2020, SA stands for special application, and the biggest difference is that SA helmets will be fire retardant for auto racing.
Source of knowledge is that i work for a rather large safety supplier.
Since you work for a safety supplier, what about suits gloves and shoes being flame retardant and bearing an SFI 3.2A/5 rating. I know karting suits are a little more laxed having abrasion resistance as their main quality, but would officials care and or are there even suits that have both? Thanks.
Separate things. i see quite a few people use nomex suits for karting, however i cant say that i would want to be in one sliding along asphalt, whereas a CIK/FIA tested karting suit is checked for abrasion resistance and usually made of cordura. also a kart suit will probably feel lighter and less hot on a hot day as nomex is an insulator. shoes and gloves should be fine for karting and car use.
