I admit, it had been a long while but when I was last active in karting, this was the site that was so full of lively discussion, information, misinformation, drama and good bench racing.
Now, I see forums where the last posts are measured not in minutes or hours, but in months and years!
So, innocently asking, just what the hell happened?
Hi Matt, discussions are done now on social media. We’ve continue to offer our forums to the karting community, which is mostly used for the classifieds section.
Social Media makes it easier to connect directly with people in the sport and get instant answers, or instant criticism (laughing) with instant notifications.
We have loved what the forums were able to do from the 2000s and 2010s. Now into the 2020s, they are not as popular as they once were.
I’m in the same shoes as Matt–came back after many years and was shocked at the lack of activity. I first attributed it to the slow loading of pages, though I seem to recall that was an issue a long time ago as well. But then I checked my local karting group’s forum and found the same thing. Is it really a shift to “social media” or has karting gone downhill in interest? Very sad.
Joe, Karting is at one of its highest in terms of participation. We are seeing bigger numbers at the national and regional levels. The shift in the sport has moved to the eastern half of the country where the majority of big races are.
There is still great regional racing in the Pacific Northwest, along with good numbers in Arizona, Colorado, Texas in sprint karting. The grassroots level has seen a big boom over the last 10 years thanks to the Briggs 206 engine platform and the 100cc returning with IAME and ROK.
