For the prospective buyer. All rotax engines you may see for sale under $2000 will require bottom end rebuild. My engine had bottom and top rebuild of total cost $1800.
So if somebody is selling engine for $1700 with only X hours, assuming top end rebuild is $300, you buying engine for $1400 and will invest $1800 to do complete rebuild in under one year term. It is better to buy new IMHO.
What I want is to get my rebuild money back, plus cost of exhaust, carb, airbox, wiring, battery and it is ONLY $500.
Nationals are coming, I rented last year and regret. Would have better off with grand in my pocket as rented engine performed exactly as mine.
