It appears that Juan Montoya and the Chipster will be parting ways come the end of the NASCAR  season . I can’t see him getting totally out of racing . but that leaves a lot of speculation as to WHERE he may end up . Some are saying Racing in South America or a possible return to Indy cars . At this point in his career I don’t think $$$ is the issue . I’m thinking with a reduced schedule he MAY end up in the NEW : United Sportscar Series .

I’ve followed JPM for a long time and have some friends that know him personally, and IMO I don’t see him going anywhere outside of the US. He just loves life in Miami too much.

I’ll love to see him try his hand in Indycar again and I love watching the stints he’s done on the 24 Hours of Daytona. But if it is not under the Chipster’s camp, I think it will be hard for him to find someone to take him at his age, lacking sponsors and fitness.

SI is saying Michael Andretti wants JPM if he can line up sponsorship.  Part of it apparently has to do with GoDaddy stepping up to back the Hinch for another season (or more).

Tim: I would take what Micheal Andretti has to say with a grain of Salt . though as far as Indy Cars go . Nothing appears to be going to open up at Penske or Chipster’s Indy operation . I can’t see him going elsewhere as he has stated he only wants to go with a first class operation CAPABLE of winning on any given race day .. Obviously Sponsorship will play a CRITICAL part in decision on where he goes , BUT he does have a slight attitude problem and Sponsorship obligations is something he is NOT too good at . Though you sure can’t say he is NOT a talented driver .

Bob, is your memory that short?  Hunter-Reay (driving for Andretti) won the championship last year, has two wins this year and standing third in points, and Hinch has 3 wins this year.  Not exactly a backmarker team….  In fact, Andretti has 3 drivers in the top 7, Penske has one in the top ten (granted Helio’s in first).

tim : Re-=read my post . I am thinking that Juan would only want to make 3 choices as far as going back to the Indy series either Penske , Chipster , or Andretti . I don’t think he would entertain the idea of shopping himself to any other team .

I know they are ALL Professional level teams but the Team has to Jell with its driver and vice versa . The biggest potential conflict I see is the ” PERSONALITY ” conflict between the Andretti’s and Montoya

Juan : Any other news from Penske ? Who is in ? Who is out ? or will the CAPTAIN be starting a NEW team for for JPM ?

Last I heard he had a FIRM offer from Front Row Motorsports If he wanted the ride .

but the LAST I heard from my Nascar Contacts is that JPM was searching for $$$ sponsorship potentially coming out of South America somewhere

He is in no one out:

JPM will drive alongside Helio Castroneves and Will Power

He will Drive the No.2 Penske car for the full season.
