Vega Tire is pleased to announce the first annual Vega Sprint Nationals will be held on the thrilling karting track at Atlanta Motorsports Park the weekend of October 4–6. This event brings professional level racing to one of the most challenging karting facilities ever built.
The Vega sponsored race offers a cash purse of over $12,000 in four classes. The premier class will be TaG Senior with $5000 to the winner. Shifter and TaG Junior will each pay $1500 to win. Cadet will pay the winner $500. All classes pay back through fifth place. Additional prizes will be awarded through our vendor partners.
The three day race format will provide a great deal of track time on the exciting AMP track. The .85 mile track was designed to CIK standards and offers the most aggressive elevation change (43 feet) of any kart track in the world. The AMP kart track will challenge even the best drivers.
Registration for the event will start in August and all classes will have a cap on the entry count. The cap on entries will ensure that all participants will have plenty of track time and make for a more enjoyable event. The entry cap will be low, so please check the web site, http://www.VegaUSA.com often for the opening of registration.

This Saturday, August 10th Atlanta Motorsports Park will hold race #6 in its monthly race series. With the confirmation of the Vega NATIONAL Money race coming to AMP, practice for non-members is running scarce. The good news is practice days have been added to the schedule for the August 10th and September 14th rounds of the Vega Sprint Race Series!
Practice Days will be held the Friday prior and the Sunday following the Saturday events.
Practice will be held on Friday, 9:00 to 1:00, on Track “A” for $35.00 per driver. Practice will be held Sunday, 9:00 to 1:00 on Track “A” and 1:00 to 5:00 on Track “B” for $50.00 per driver. Use the menu link to see track layouts on the TS Racing Atlanta website.
There will be no pit pass charges on Friday and Sunday. AMP is providing this as a courtesy. Your Saturday pit pass will be used for access on Sunday.
The only requirement to participate in the practice days is you must be pre-entered in that weekend’s Vega Sprint Series event

Are WKA TAG rules in effect, or TS racing’s own TAG rules, or other? It would be nice to know what other changes TS and or VEGA are making in advance of the race.

Josh,
A detailed schedule will be available August 20th along with the entry form. In general Friday is a practice day. With only four classes you will get 6-7 rounds of practice to master this incredible track. Saturday will be qualifying and a heat race. Sunday will be a 2nd heat race and the money feature races.
You will be required to run the spec Vega tires for qualifying and the races.
Too early to tell on entries, but with $1,500 to win, we should draw good numbers! I hope you can make it. You will not be disappointed.

Vega Tire Sprint Series at Atlanta Motorsports Park Race #7 Recap
Fall like weather greeted those in attendance for the seventh round of the Vega Tire Sprint Series Saturday, September 14th at Atlanta Motorsports Park kart track in Dawsonville, GA in sharp contrast to the sizzling heat for Race #6. The track was fast with several new track records set. For the first time this season one driver was the fastest qualifier and then went on to win both the pre-final and final races. This incredible feat was accomplished in three classes, TaG Jr., TaG Sr. and Cadet /Yamaha Sportsman!
KID KARTS
The first event was Kid Karts. Jack O’Brien and Brayden Huguenard continued their season long battle, with O’Brien nosing out Huguenard. But watch out for Vincent Cortililo. He made incredible progress this week.
TAG JUNIOR
This class continues to grow and the competitors continue to lay down some very fast laps. Henry Brass returned after a two race absence while he raced in FL to sweep qualifying and the pre-final and final races. Brass broke Michael Bilyy’s track record in qualifying and then Brass broke his own record in the final race with a lap of 51.469 seconds! Bilyy ran strong in second while Willis Woerheide, Damon Steele and newcomer Hunter Hazelwood battled for the last spot on the podium. Woerheide prevailed with point’s leader Steele coming home 4th. Steele has a healthy point’s lead going into the season ending double point’s race, but Bilyy, Woerheide and Brass all have chances of winning the points championship should Steele stumble.
TAG SENIOR
Season point’s leader Joseph Buffa found his change of engine brands to his liking and duplicated Brass’s feat with a sweep of qualifying and the pre-final and final races. Buffa also broke Jose Garcia’s track record in qualifying with a scalding lap of 51.899 seconds. Alex Sala kept Buffa honest with a strong 2nd place run. Behind Buffa and Sala it was mass chaos as Garcia, Matt Tilden, Nick Lefferdo and Rick Whitlock battled during the early laps of the 15 lap Final race. One by one they were eliminated or fell back in the field due to various maladies. While these guys were battling it out Danny Kay was charging thru the field from his last starting position after a wreck ended his pre-final race. When the dust had settled Kay clawed his way to a well-deserved 3rd place finish and Dev Gore and Sammy Jiger both had their best finishes of the season in 4th and 5th place respectively. So going into the season finale Buffa has the point’s lead over Sala, with Kay, Lee Johnson, Justin Garrison and Garcia still in the chase.
CADET / YAMAHA SPORTSMAN
Ryan Detlor returned after a two race absence while he did some WKA Man Cup racing and in style swept qualifying and the pre-final and final races with a new track record in qualifying of 1 minute 1.903 seconds. Season point’s leader Wills Woerheide remained consistent with a 2nd place finish and Austin Huguenard showed improvement all day and kept himself in the point’s race coming home 3rd. Little brother Brayden Huguenard had a nice debut in the Yamaha Sportsman class with a solid 4th place finish. Woerheide maintains his season point’s lead with A. Huguenard, Detlor and race #6 winner, Enzo Espinosa still in the hunt.
NEXT RACE
The next race in the Vega Tire Sprint Race Series is the season ending double point’s $12,000 Vega Sprint Nationals October 4 – 6! This race will be huge with $5,000 on the line for winning the highly competitive Tag Senior class. Classes are filling up, so get those entries in if you have not done so already. This will help us finalize plans for the race and make this race an unforgettable experience for you and your family.
