US Rotax Grand Nationals Set for Charlotte Motor Speedway
The 2020 edition of the US Rotax Grand Nationals is set for July 3-5 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. This year’s event marks the 20th anniversary of the inaugural race, which was held in Las Vegas in 2001. Twenty years later, amidst a rejuvenation of the program, Rotax karting in the United States remains focused on the grassroots level while providing a path for drivers to compete on the world stage.
This is the first time that the circuit nestled inside the Turn 3 and 4 section of the Charlotte Motor Speedway will host the US Rotax Grand Nationals, having served as the location for a number of national and international events over the last 40 years. This will be the second time the Grand Nationals have been hosted in North Carolina, as the 2013 event was held at the GoPro Motorplex.

Six categories are set to compete on the historic and newly repaved kart circuit inside the CMS facility. A total of five Rotax Max Challenge categories will be offered, including Senior Max, Masters Max, Junior Max, Mini Max and Micro Max. The sixth division for the event is a Pro Briggs 206 class.
The 2020 US Rotax Grand Nationals will be contested over three days, including an unofficial practice day on Thursday, July 2. Friday, July 3 offers five sessions of practice. Qualifying and three rounds of heat races take place on Saturday, July 4. The event concludes on Sunday, July 5 with a Super Heat to determine the starting positions for the Finals in all categories which will decide the 2020 US Rotax Grand Nationals champions.
Several prizes will be awarded following the main events in all six categories. The top prizes from the event include nine tickets to the 2020 Rotax Grand Finals, which is scheduled for the Bahrain International Karting Circuit in the Sakhir desert of Bahrain on November 7-14.
“We are extremely excited for this year’s event as it marks the return karting to the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway. In a one-off event like this with over $70,000 in value awards being handed out we can’t wait to handout the prize and watch some amazing close racing.” – J3 Competition.
