Race Recap: Penultimate Round of the 2019 ROK Sonoma Presented by Sanzaru

With championship titles on the line come October, drivers went all out at Sonoma Raceway’s Simraceway Performance Karting Center for the penultimate round of ROK Sonoma Presented by Sanzaru. With the end of the 2019 season on the horizon, several ROKKERS are planning their annual trip to Las Vegas for the ROK Cup USA season finale at the ROK the RIO while other look to finish their current local and regional championships on a high note.

Senior ROK Shifter

In a very close qualifying session, with the top-three separated by a scant 0.060 seconds, Hunter Pickett came out on top of the field and followed it up with a nearly two-second victory in the pre-main. He’d have to settle for second on the podium in the main, as Brian Keck celebrated his win on the podium. Cole Shade finished in third, followed by Aiden O’Neill and current point leader Enzo Prevost.

80 Masters & 125 Limited

Pole position in 125 Shifter Limited went to Bryan Devert, who fell to second in the pre-main as Stephan Gaudreau took the win over Devert. Devert was back on the top of the charts in the main, taking a two second win over Stephan Cameron and Steven Piggott, who finished second and third respectively. Dee Baldwin and championship leader Richard Hilleman completed the top-five.

Second in the points, Allen Miller just edged the field in 80 Masters to take the top spot in qualifying. Mat Kattanek scored a nearly six second victory in the pre-main and edged Roger Cornwall in the final to top the blocks. Miller recovered from a pre-main DNF to complete the podium with Kyle Bailey and Geoff Provo fourth and fifth.

Mini ROK

In the Mini ROK category, Alex Rantala put down the fastest lap in qualifying. The hot shoe then took 6.5+ second victories in both the pre-main and main to complete a sweep of the day. Christian Cameron and Casey Moyer completed the podium with current championship leader Anthony White and Derek Domingos fourth and fifth respectively.

Senior 100cc & Junior ROK

Bijoy Garg went quick in Senior/Master 100cc to earn the pole position and used his speed to come away with a 10+ second victory in the pre-main. Bettering himself in the main, Garg ran away with the win, crushing the field with a more than 12 second difference. Ron Jenkins finished second with Rob Soares third to complete the podium. Josh Buttafoco and Roman Madrigal completed the top-five. In ROK Junior, the win went to Jacob Franks, who is also leading the championship heading into the finale event.

Master ROK – Feature Race

Master ROK pole position went to class points leader Eric Molinatti with his fast lap. Taking the pre-main win, Molinatti completed the weekend sweep by taking the day’s main event victory over his championship rival John Breidinger.

Master ROK Shifter

In another tight qualifying session, Neil Joseph edged Kevin Woods by 0.013 second to take the Master ROK Shifter pole position. Joseph was able to better Woods again in the pre-main and took the main event victory again over Woods. Ryan Yop finished third, followed by Patrick O’Neill and championship leader Jim Inglebright.

Senior ROK

Garg was back on top again, this time in the Senior ROK category, taking the pole position and pre-main win by nearly seven seconds. The main brought some competition as William Ferguson came through the field and gave Garg a run for his money. Garg held on to the win over Ferguson, with Jordan Jadallah completing the podium. Eddie Shimmon and Dakota White came home with fourth and fifth finishes.

The finale round of the ROK Sonoma Presented by Sanzaru will take place October 19-20 at the SimRaceway Performance Karting Center in Sonoma, California. Please note the change from the originally released schedule and update your calendars accordingly.
