Two Wins and Eleven Podiums for P1 Engines at Challenge of the Americas
Successful weekend for P1 Engines
Making the short trek to CalSpeed Karting for the opening round of the 2019 Challenge of the Americas, P1 Engines closed another successful weekend with eleven podiums, including two main event victories. In a weekend where all weather was experienced, P1 Engines powered drivers showed speed and obtained results in both wet and dry conditions.
“The weekend was a very challenging one,” explained Jesus Vasquez. “With changing conditions throughout both race days, we really had to stay on top of the tuning, as well as the setup to the best of our abilities. In the end, we managed to come out on top.”
Enzo Deligny and Logan Toke took control of the Vortex Mini ROK class with each driver taking one win and one second place result over the weekend. Deligny scored the pole position on Saturday along with the heat race win, but it was Toke who took checkers in the main event. On Sunday, Deligny again took the heat win but this time would be able to hold on to the lead and score his first main event victory of the season with Toke crossing the line in second, securing a pair of 1 – 2 finishes for P1 Engines.
In the Vortex Micro ROK class Zachary Walrod took his first swing at a national level event with great results. On Saturday, Walrod ran in the second position all day until the closing laps in the main event where he fell to third, but stood on the podium. Sunday, under wet weather conditions, Walrod scored the pole position. A penalty in the heat race forced him to start the main event from the tail of the field and at the drop of the green flag, he quickly rocketed his way forward, eventually taking the lead late in the race but would be forced to settle for the second stop on he podium. P1 Engines powered driver Gage Jarvis joined Walrod on the podium Sunday with a third place effort.
Colby Dubato entered a pair of classes over the weekend competing in both the 100cc Senior and ROK Senior divisions. Performing better with his ROK power plant, Dubato overcame early day struggles to put together a great drive in the main event and stand on the second step of the podium. Sunday would see much of the same for Dubato as early morning qualifying issues saw him struggle to stay in the top ten. Advancing forward through the heat races and making more passes than any driver in the field, Dubato was again on the podium with a third place effort and left the first event weekend with the championship point lead. In the Senior 100cc class, Dubato was forced to deal with changing conditions but when the checkered flag flew on both Saturday and Sunday, it was another pair of podiums for the P1 Engines driver.
Next up for P1 Engines is the first round of the LAKC program followed by the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Winter Nationals and then rounds three and four of the ROK Cup USA Challenge of the Americas.
