Driving for Dyslexia Karting Event Set for May 18 at Speedway Indoor Karting

All proceeds to the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana in memory of Justin Wilson

Ten-year-old karter Elliot Cox is winning both on and off the track. The 2017 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour Micro Swift champion hails from Indianapolis, Indiana – home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Like many young karters, Elliot dreams of becoming the youngest Indianapolis 500 winner. Elliot is an alumni of the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana, and attributes his dyslexia to his racing success.

In 2015, he had the opportunity of a lifetime to meet and partner with Justin Wilson, along with Scott Dixon and Stefan Wilson, on the “Dyslexia Doesn’t Stop Me” campaign. Tragically, Wilson had his life cut short that same year after suffering traumatic injuries during an accident at the Pocono Raceway. To carry on the legacy and the work Wilson did for dyslexia and the institute, Elliot founded Driving for Dyslexia.

When not in school or racing, Elliot gives his free time speaking in schools and groups of kids to raise awareness about dyslexia. Recently, Elliot helped to support a new law passed through the state of Indiana to create a universal screening process in public schools.

To help raise more funds under the Driving for Dyslexia program, he is hosting a karting event on May 18 at the Speedway Indoor Karting facility, which is located less than one mile south of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The event, held from 6pm-8pm ET, features kart racing, door prizes, driver appearances, and a silent auction along with food and drinks. The event is free to attend and $100 to compete in the racing. The event also includes an online silent auction that opens up on Wednesday, May 16.

100% of the proceeds from the Driving with Dyslexia event, including the online auction, will be donated to the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana in the memory of Justin Wilson.
