Musgrave Grabs Two Podiums at Pro Tour Opener
Billy Musgrave and the Musgrave Racing Company Team opened the 2018 SKUSA Pro Tour season at NOLA Motorsports Park with solid points and strong finishes highlighted by two podiums in the S1 Pro Stock Honda class.
Musgrave would compete in two classes and in the PSL Karting X30 Senior class he would have mixed results. In round 1, Musgrave would qualify 9th and followed that up with a 6th place finish in the heat but problems in the main event would sideline him while running in the top-10. Fortunately for Musgrave and the MRC team, Round 2 would yield better results. While he uncharacteristically qualified outside the top-10 and finished 17th in the heat, he battled back in the main event to charge back into the top-10, piloting his Mad Old Nut/Mad Croc X30 chassis to the 8th place position as the checker flag fell.
Musgrave would fare better in the Musgrave MRC S1 Pro Stock Honda division where he was among the front runners all weekend. Day one would see him qualify 5th, finish 2nd in the heat and 3rd in the main while setting the race’s fastest lap. On Sunday, Musgrave would make improvements that saw him qualify 3rd and finish second in both the heat race and main event while again setting the fastest lap of the race in his MRC/Aluminos shifter kart. While he was hoping to score a pair of wins, two podiums in the first two rounds is a strong start to the Pro Tour season for the 2017 Supernationals champion.
“We wanted to win but if you can’t do that, it’s always good to score some solid points,’ said Musgrave. “Day one got a little bit crazy so I’m glad we were able to limit the damage and still get on the box. I think we have the speed we need and we’ll be ready for the next Pro Tour event.”
Team MRC will have a short break before the SKUSA season resumes with round 2 of the ProKart Challenge at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, California on March 30-31. For more information visit superkartsusa.com and follow all the action on ekartingnews.com.
