Perfect Kart Championship Season for Priestley Leads to Crew Chief of the Year Award
11 year old Welland Kart Racer Joey Priestley’s undefeated season saw his dad Joe Priestley, (a former Kart Racer himself) honored as Crew Chief of the Year.as the Merrittville Speedway Kart Club celebrated the 2017 Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Karting Series Season Sunday November 26th at rural Thorold’s Club Castropignano.
In the rain shortened season, Priestley won 10 out of 10 Features completed to win his first career Championship in the Quick Ink Custom Screen Printing Performance Manufacturing Junior 2 Division.
The 24th consecutive season of Tuesday Night Racing also had two other drivers win their first Championships – Nigel Pendykoski of Niagara Falls in the RCM Racing Equipment Junior 1 Division and Jaedon Lawson in the Superior PetroFuels Junior Restricted Division respectively.
Travis Majuery of Niagara won his second straight Championship in the Southern Ontario Modified Lite Racing Association Senior Animal Division.
Merrittville Speedway’s youngest group of karters – the Designed Wright Signs & Promotional Products St. Catharines Discount Auto Parts Wilder Racing Engines Novice 1 and Novice 2 Combined Divisions received Competition Awards, as they do not run for points. Ben Colavecchia, Chris Crowe, Scarlett Gaboury, Gavin Lavallee, Jacob Mamo and Austin Nigh were all presented Competition Awards.
Merrittville Speedway’s Kart Club Member Drivers shared in the more than $10,000 in cash point fund and prize awards.
All of Merrittville Speedway’s 2017 Drivers in attendance were eligible to win a Pressure Washer donated by Briggs & Stratton and the winner of the $ 500 prize was Junior 1 Champion Nigel Pendykoski.
The Member Driver Draws also included prizes from Performance Manufacturing, Slack Karts, and Burris Tire.
Austin Nigh, Amber White, Joey Priestley, Jaedon Lawson and Travis Majuery were all winners of new Kart Bodies while Nigel Pendykoski took home the Main Prize – a Briggs & Stratton Pressure Washer donated by Briggs Racing.
A number of Specialty Awards were handed out and the winners are listed as follows.

RCM Racing Equipment Sportsmanship Awards: Scarlett Gaboury (Designed Wright St. Catharines Discount Auto Parts Wilder Racing Engines Performance Manufacturing Novice 1 and 2 Combined), Logan Iliffe (RCM Racing Equipment Performance Manufacturing Junior 1), Owen Kaiser (Quick Ink Custom Screen Printing Performance Manufacturing Junior 2), Davis Grocott (Superior PetroFuels Performance Manufacturing Junior Restricted Flat Head) and Dylan Culp (Southern Ontario Modified Lite Racing Association Performance Manufacturing Senior Animal).
Joe Priestley was presented the Crew Chief of the Year Award for his efforts behind his son Joey’s Rookie Season in the Junior 2 Division. Tyler won 10 Features in 2017, earning his first Championship.
Colleeen Curvin was presented the Race Director’s Award. A second generation racing official, Curvin has been a long time Stock Car and Kart Official and was instrumental in helping with the transition to the Spiece Family’s ownership. .
