Los Angeles Karting Championship Announces ‘Pro Show’ Program for 2017

Saturday evening events to take place with support from Superkarts! USA and IAME

The Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC) is set to host four LAKC Pro Show events for 2017 in collaboration with Superkarts! USA and IAME. Introduced last summer, the Pro Show is a Saturday evening program that is conducted following the practice day action prior to the LAKC club event on Sunday. The 2017 LAKC Pro Show will be held four times this summer, during the weekend of the May, June, July and August events on the season, featuring the S1 Pro / S2 Semi-Pro along with the new IAME X175 Pro / X175 Master divisions. The two race groups will be racing for prizes, with a cash purse throughout the program for the Stock Honda categories and a trip to the IAME International Final in France for the X175 competitors.

The format of the LAKC Pro Show is similar to that of a Supercross event. Each category will qualify to determine the race groups for the Prefinal. The Stock Honda and X175 groups will be split into two Prefinals, with those results determining the line-up for the main events. The top-10 from each Prefinal transfer with the rest of the field moved to a Last Chance Qualifier. Those who finish inside the top-five move on to the main event with a total of 25-drivers set to battle as the sun sets.

“We want to capture the feel and excitement of a Supercross race and bring it to karting,” says Willy Musgrave, LAKC President. “Last year’s debut of the Pro Show was a success, and now for 2017 we are taking it to the next level.”

Part of the LAKC Pro Show is the prestige of racing for big prizes. For the Stock Honda category, a cash purse will be handed out similar to last year’s events based on the overall results of the combined S1 Pro / S2 Semi-Pro race group. The exact details of the figures is still to be determined, but the winner received over $1,000 each time last year. The same is expected with the purse going back to the 15th position.

The X175 Pro and X175 Master classes are replacing the X30 Pro division for the LAKC Pro Show in 2017. Part of the change is based on the exciting prize package – a ticket to compete at the IAME International Final in Le Mans, France. A four-race championship, based on the LAKC point structure, will be conducted using the overall results of the LAKC Pro Show X175 race group. The top points earner will win the all-expense paid trip to compete in the Super X30 category that includes: entry fee, engine, chassis, tires, mechanic, hotel and air fair. The driver will be part of the Team USA contingent that will be competing at the world championship event.

“I am very happy to have IAME and Superkarts! USA help us provide such an amazing prize,” added Musgrave. “There is no opportunity like this. Having the ability to compete at a world championship is very rare, and one talented driver from LAKC will be able to represent our program at Le Mans, France.”

The X175 engine package is available from IAME dealers in the United States. LAKC is organizing engine sales to ensure drivers will race in all four events, as well as offer a special introductory price for the first 20 engines. Engines must have an IAME USA passport, with the Pro weight at 370lbs. and 405lbs. for the Master division. Working front brakes (pedal activated) are mandatory for all karts.

LAKC is also happy to announce a deal with MAVTV to film each of the Pro Show events and produce a series of shows with an emphasis on high-entertainment value for racers. LAKC is also working with Monster Media to help produce more track banners. The goal is to elevate the facility and atmosphere of the event to a whole new level for karting, which will in-turn provide a more productive platform for the LAKC partners and sponsors.
