Second place for Birel ART Junior at the 2016 Rok Cup International Final
Birel ART Junior and Pietro Delli Guanti performed strongly all weekend to finish in second place. Starting from the front row in the Final, Pietro dropped to fourth on the opening lap, but thanks to some overtaking manoeuvres managed to take the lead on lap 5. Hit by another driver in the late stages of the race, the Italian driver lost some positions, but managed to close the gap on the last lap and finished second.
21st at the start in the Bridgestone Trophy, Yaroslav Shevyrtalov recovered to 12th place: Yaroslav was looking to make the top ten but was hit by another driver on the second last lap and finished 30th.
Starting from 12th and 10th rows in the heats, Leonardo Bertini Colla and Andrea Filaferro both moved up the order to run in the top ten in the heats.
Francisco Soldavini’s weekend was affected by the limited time available in practice and by the changing conditions that made it hard to find the ideal setup. After a difficult qualifying session, finally, Yarominr Kayumov made up several places in the heats, missing the final stages because of a few penalty points.
Giorgio Pantano: “I’m happy for the second place with Delli Guanti, although the collision with another driver in the final stages didn’t allow us to compete for the win. We won three heats out of four and we started from the front row in the Final, proving we were able to fight for the victory. I am also satisfied with the performance of Shevyrtalov, even if the contact in the closing laps influenced the final result. The weekend was also affected by the qualifying under the rain and by the changing conditions. We were fast in the heats, but some collisions and penalties meant Filaferro, Bertini Colla, Soldavini and Kayumov were unable to qualify for the Final. It’s a shame because in the Heats we showed our potential.”
