Birel ART Junior Wins the Rok Cup Italia
Birel ART Junior with Pietro Delli Guanti won the 2016 edition of the Rok Cup Italia (Mini class) at the end of a dominant weekend.
After posting the second fastest time in his qualifying session, Delli Guanti won Heat 1 by over three seconds, finished second with the best lap in Heat 2 and won the Pre-Final. Starting on pole position in the Final, Pietro kept the lead for the whole race, taking the checkered flag in his C28-Y sixty-three thousandths of a second ahead of the runner-up.
Starting in 32nd position in the Final, following a retirement in the Pre-Final due to a technical problem, Francesco Pizzi managed to post very competitive times during the race, allowing him to make numerous overtaking manoeuvres and climb the field up to 11th.
Leonardo Bertini Colla was unable to qualify for the final due to a technical problem in one of the two heats. Starting in 11th position in the Bridgestone Trophy, Leonardo was nevertheless able to make the most of his competitiveness and finished in sixth place.
Giorgio Pantano: “I am very happy for the win with Pietro Delli Guanti and for the whole weekend because we were very competitive. It was a pity about the technical problem experienced by Francesco Pizzi in the Pre-Final while he was leading the race because he was quick enough to achieve excellent results also in the final stage. Lastly, Leonardo Bertini Colla managed a good performance in the Bridgestone Trophy and I am sure that he would have been able to achieve a significant result in both the Pre-Final and the Final”.
Next meeting: Italian ACI Karting Championship, 16-18 September 2016
