Phil Giebler Racing’s Wilson 2nd in X30 Master, Wimsett 5th Back-to-Back in SKUSA Pro Tour in Indiana

Phil Giebler Racing’s Ethan Wilson of Campbell, Calif., finished second in X30 Master and Joey Wimsett of Beavercreek, Ore., drove to back-to-back fifths in S1 Pro Stock Moto in rounds three and four of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour on July 23-24 at Indiana’s New Castle Motorsports Park.

PGR also had fine top-10s against one of the most competitive karting fields in the United States this season from 14-year-old Nicky Hays of Huntington Beach, Calif., sixth in X30 Senior on Sunday, and Vatche Tatikian of Altadena, Calif., seventh in X30 Master on Saturday.

“We had a very good weekend against very tough competition,” Giebler said “Joey Wimsett was third in overall points in S1 pro shifter and Ethan Wilson shook off the rust and drove impressively on Sunday to take second. Nicky Hays had an impressive drive in X30, battled hard with a group running from fourth to ninth in the Sunday feature and came away with sixth. Vatche Tatikian showed the speed to run up front and had a seventh and 11th in the two features.”

The 46-year-old Wilson is racing regularly in the Ferrari Challenge and part-time in karting. He was 11th in qualifying on Saturday, finished sixth and ninth in his two heats and was 11th in the 18-lap feature on the 1-mile course. On Sunday, Wilson was fifth fastest in qualifying and finished third and second in his two heats.

“It took a day for Ethan to get back in the groove,” Giebler said.

Tatikian was 14th in qualifying and 12th and 15th in his heats on Saturday. He also picked up the pace on Sunday, qualifying second fastest and finishing fourth and sixth in his two heats.

Wimsett was seventh in qualifying and rebounded from a DNF/10th in his first heat to take third in the second heat on Saturday. Sunday, he ran in the top five in every session, fifth in qualifying and fourth in both his heats.

Hays and Kyle Dupell, driving in his second event for PGR, had a rough round on Saturday in an X30 Senior field that had 42 entrants. Hays was 23rd fastest in qualifying, finished 12th and 18th in his heats and finished 32nd in the feature. Dupell was 38th in qualifying, 32nd and 29th in his two heats and 26th in the feature.

On Sunday, Hays qualified in 21st position, finished 19th and 14th in the heats and drove through the pack to sixth in the feature. Dupell qualified in 34th position, was 23rd and 22nd in his heats and completed one lap in the feature, finishing 40th.
