The current #1 driver in the EKN TaG Driver Rankings is former SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jake Craig. The California driver is making a return back to the OTK brand following a 2015 season with Formula K and part of 2016 aboard the fellow IPKarting chassis Praga. The two parties went separate ways following an event here in May, with Craig going out on his own carrying the JCR (Jake Craig Racing) colors aboard a FA Kart. The 2014 champ is looking to put himself back in the title chase following a runner-up finish during Round Two in Phoenix.
Cash Money Up for Grabs in Nearly Every Class
The entry total for this year’s SummerNationals is at 253, setting another record for the seventh annual event. The headline categories each race for $2,500 in cash for the top-five finishers on the weekend. With the large numbers comes more for the other divisions, as all classes with 30 or more earn the right to a $1,000 purse for the weekend total. Micro came into the event with 30, as Mini, S2 and X30 Junior are all above that mark. That puts just the cash purse to $9,000 for the weekend, not to mention the other prizes awarded on the weekend. The drivers will have to earn it as the schedule has been changed to a 10-10-20 format in terms of laps for the Pro classes. Master and Junior divisions will run 10-10-18 and the Mini/Micro groups a 8-8-16 for Saturday and Sunday. With the humidity and the possibility of rain throughout the weekend, it will be money earned.
