WKA and United States Pro Kart Series Compile 2017 Schedules
Two organizations looking ahead to next season for premier and secondary programs
As the leading website in the sport, eKartingNews.com has been given an exclusive look at the schedules for the World Karting Association and United States Pro Kart Series programs for 2017. The long-standing sanctioning body and race promoter Mark Coats have compiled season schedules, all with their racers in mind. Over-lapping schedules have been an issue before, and the two entities have taken the time to ensure that racers can enjoy all that each program has to offer at a number of first-class facilities located across the eastern half of the United States.
The WKA Manufacturers Cup Series will once again host five events over the calendar year, beginning with the annual Daytona KartWeek during the last week of 2016. Launched this past January, the WKA Winter Cup program was a success for the organization and for their racers as well, who were given the chance to compete during the colder months. The series is back, moving to events scheduled from February to April with three stand-alone weekends. The Winter Cup will also visit two new facilities, starting with the Ocala Gran Prix circuit in central Florida before traveling to the Bayou area for the first time to race at the prestigious NOLA Motorsports Park.
“The 2016 season has been exciting for the organization and I am really looking forward to continuing this momentum into 2017,” commented WKA President John Ferris. “The Officers and Trustees wanted to make sure we listened to our racers on the locations for the upcoming season, and be able to avoid any conflicts with dates of other prominent racing programs in our region and across the country. The 2017 season will offer eight events, all in different months of the year, to allow our racers to enjoy the great tracks we will visit, and offer them the opportunity to continue their support of local and regional events in their area.”
2017 will mark the fifth season of the United States Pro Kart Series, and the program will visit four unique and challenging circuits. The series will visit NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana for the first time, kicking off the season during the first weekend in April. Returning to South Bend and Pittsburgh for Rounds 2 and 3, the series also makes a return to the home of Badger Kart Club in Wisconsin to close out the season. In addition to Coats’ USPKS series, next year marks the 17th season of the Route 66 Sprint Series program, which is focused on bringing together the top regional racers in the Midwest and Great Lakes area for another five-weekend season.
“We want to make sure we take our series to different tracks each year,” stated United States Pro Kart Series promoter Mark Coats. “There is a long list of facilities that we can go to every year, and it is a challenge to narrow it down to just four. Our goal is to establish a solid rotation of tracks our racers enjoy going to and remain part of the USPKS. I can’t thank the tracks and their owners from the past and those that we will be going to in the future.”
These schedules map out a clear schedule for the number of racers on the eastern half of the country. Both have taken into account the annual dates of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour in mind. Racers can now look forward to a strong event schedule, solid class structures along with great fun and entertainment with both programs.
