IKF Congratulates Alexander Rossi for Indianapolis 500 Win and Honda Performance Development
The Board of Directors and members of the International Kart Federation send congratulations to Alexander Rossi for his win in the 2016 Indianapolis 500. This is Rossi’s rookie season in the Indy Car series and only his sixth race, after spending the last few years in Europe competing in open wheel racing including Formula One. Only nine times in the 100 years of the event has a rookie won, the last time in 2001 was by Helio Castroneves.
Rossi, from Northern California, began his racing in karting becoming an IKF Grand National champion winning 100cc Yamaha class in 2005 and then moved on as a semi-finalist in the Red Bull driver’s search and Skip Barber Racing School. This year he joined Bryan Herta Autosport which has joined with Andretti Autosport. Bryan Herta is also a former IKF competitor.
“It is great to see Rossi achieve this success,” said Roger Miller, President of IKF. “Many of the IKF leadership, past and present watched Rossi compete in the junior ranks of karting and he was quickly performing at the pointy end of the grid. Hats off to Herta for his strategy and how he managed the last segment of the race!”
In addition, IKF congratulates HPD for their winning engine package and recognizes their ongoing support of IKF.
