P1 Engines – Mid Season Race Report
P1 Engines: Busy from coast-to-coast
With the crazy summer racing schedule nearly complete, P1 Engines continues to impress with race wins and podiums across the country. Proving their prowess among several different engine platforms, P1 Engine powered drivers have been at the front of the field in both regional and national level competition.
Starting off in Fontana, California with the Los Angeles Kart Club (LAKC) program, Andrick Zeen had a dominating day in the TaG Senior class by scoring the pole position, heat race win and finishing off the perfect sweep by taking the checkers in the main event aboard his P1 prepared IAME X30. David Vasquez would make it a 1-2 finish for the California-based engine builder claiming the second step on the podium. Not to be outdone, Dante Yu secured the PRD Junior victory, adding to P1 Engines already impressive resume.
Traveling across the country to the famed New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana, P1 Engines would provide trackside support for their customers attending the second event weekend of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Fikse Wheels Pro Tour. Oliver Askew would drive his P1 Engines powered kart to a second place effort in qualifying before settling for a third place result in the main event. Mason Marotta showed great speed throughout the weekend but fell victim to contact after running well inside the top-ten throughout the race weekend. Chris Wehrheim, Kevin Breysse and Marco Mastranzi also had the speed to compete but racing luck would not be on their side this weekend with Mastranzi claiming the best result of the trio with an eighth place finish.
In the TaG Junior field, Dante Yu had a great run finishing sixth in one of the two main events on the weekend. Canadian driver Roman DeAngelis was consistently in the top-ten throughout the race weekend and managed a pair of seventh place results for his efforts.
P1 Engines would enter a handful of drivers in the TaG Cadet class with Oliver Calvo near the pointy end of the field. Winning one of his heat races and running in the top-five throughout the weekend, Calvo secured a third place podium result. Tomas Mejia and Jonathan Portz ran in the top-five in their respective heat races showing great speed with some of the country’s top Cadet drivers.
Corey Mitchell, Larry Maden and Cristian Vormir would all grab top-ten finishes in TaG Masters.
Remaining busy across the country, P1 Engines would have drivers at the third event weekend of the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS) as well as the International Kart Federation (IKF) Grand Nationals. In USPKS competition, Roman DeAngelis and Michael d’Orlando would run well in the top-five with DeAngelis claiming sixth and third place results while d’Olrando would cross the line in fifth and fourth throughout the weekend. In TaG Senior, Andrick Zeen would improve on his sixth place qualifying effort to a solid third place podium result on Saturday. Sunday would see the P1 Engines driver qualify third and win heat one before contact in heat two. With a poor starting position for the main event, Zeen drove forward to finish P7.
In IKF Grand Nationals competition, P1 Engines claimed seven victories and seven ‘Screaming Eagles’ throughout the event. Oliver Calvo secured the victory in IAME Mini Swift, Mini Swift Heavy and PRD1 Heavy. Jesus Vasquez Jr. won the Honda Kid Kart class while Gary Lyles stood atop the podium in IAME Junior. Grayson Browne and Jared Patterson took home victories in KPV Senior and KPV Junior Heavy respectively.
