Cole Peschang Looking to Repeat as LO206 Junior Champion in 2015

2014 Mid-American Sprint Series LO206 JR Champion

Cole Peschang

For the last 3 years South Beloit, Illinois’ young racer Cole Peschang  has been racing go-karts in Brodhead, Wisconsin at Sugar River Raceway. He is a numerous time Track Champion and holds Track Records in a few different classes there. In 2014 Cole’s family made the decision to try the LO206 Briggs and Stratton  engine. “The Lo206 has been gaining a lot of racers from other motors and series. It looked like the engine program our team wants to try. “ said Jeff Peschang ( Cole’s dad and PR Guy)

“2014 ended up being a great decision to run elsewhere” Jeff said.  Cole had won the first few races at Sugar River with the LO206 before he joined the Mid-American Sprint Series in the LO206 Jr Class. The MASS series was a new series with 2 and 4 stroke classes.  The series goes to a bunch of great tracks in the Midwest around Illinois and Wisconsin. Tracks included Concept Haulers Motor Speedway, Mid-State Kart Clubs track in Springfield, IL , Badger Raceway in Dousman, WI. Road America, and Shawano. None of these tracks had Cole been to before 2014. He ended up with a 11-1 record in the MASS Series. He also was track Champion at Sugar River in the Animal Jr, and Honda Jr Super Stock Classes. Resetting the Track records for both of those classes too.

It was a great learning experience for Cole. He got to go to new tracks and meet new racers, families, officials, and Series Promoters. He learned that each track was different from the previous tracks. None of them being like Sugar River. These were bigger and better tracks.  Cole was one of the karters everyone was watching. He seemed to set the fast times for all of his races. All with an old 1989 Coyote Bullet chassis. Cole even had Greg Jasperson and Steven Vermeer looking at his kart at the end of the season at US Air in Shawano, Wisconsin. Cole had just won 3 of the 4 events for the weekend in the 206 Cup’s last 2014 races of the year. Greg had made the comment which made a previous ekartingnews story .  Stating how you do not need brand new chassis’ to run up front in the 206 Cup Series.

Cole’s kart was always an easy one to spot on the track.  Jeff painted it up a few years ago to pay respects to the old Woods Brothers #21 NASCAR racecars.  At the Mid-American Sprint Series banquet in 2014 Cole even won the “Best Appearing Kart” Award.

2014 had many other wins in other types of karting for Cole. He repeated for the 2nd year in a row as Champion of the Durand, Illinois Bulldog Street Races in the Animal Jr Class. And also his 2nd straight year in Beloit, Wisconsin’s “ Race on the Rock” asphalt oval  also in the Animal Jr Class. Different in 2014 was no other Jr showed up so they decided to allow Cole to race with the Animal Sr Class. 1 other driver showed up. It was numerous time winner Kourtney Borman.  Cole had to put a yellow slide in his motor to try to keep it level for both to race.  Cole  won the  2nd heat  and the feature. Jeff said “ Wow ! She is a great driver and has lots of experience in karts and midgets. It was an honor to race her. We couldn’t have done it without Kourtney’s dads help. He helped us setup our kart today. Cole’s Phenom had never been on a scale till today. We just didn’t have the time with all the other racing we’ve been doing.”

For 2015 Cole will be racing in 3 series. MASS again along with The 206 Cup and the Championship Enduro Series Jeff said.  Cole just loves to race  at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in his hometown of South Beloit, Illinois. Last year Cole finished 3rd in the Animal Nationals Race that was held there in the fall. Cole gave his trophy to Aaron van Delft after the races. Aaron had been in a serious crash there during the spring race and was airlifted to the hospital.  Cole said “ I didn’t really know him before his crash. I couldn’t do anything for him at the time. This was the best thing I could think of to do for him” Dave Larson of CES said “ I tear up when I think of what he did for Aaron. That was really cool of Cole to do that”

This past weekend April 18-19, 2015  Cole  racked up 4 more Wins in the MASS Series at Concept Haulers Motor Speedway. Sunday they let the LO206 Jr’s race with the LO206  Sr Class. Cole set the fast times for the feature race ( Jr and SR) with a 56.107. ” Even in between races we had to watch where Cole was going next. He always finds someone who needs help. He’s not afraid to get in there and get his hands greasy” . Jeff said.

Lucas Oil will be with us again in 2015. “ It is our 2nd year with Lucas Oil and they have been nothing but 100% behind us since the start. But this year we hit the jackpot with Protect the Harvest and MAVTV being part of our contract  too . I can’t wait for Blackhawk on May 31. Because Adventure Aaron will be taping our races for a show on MAVTV to air later this summer” Cole says.
