Ryan Norberg Switches to PCR for 2015
Talented Junior to join Checkered Motorsports
After an amazing 2014 season, Floridian driver Ryan Norberg has made the decision tojoin Checkered Motorsports for the upcoming 2015 karting calendar. After several years aboard multiple different chassis brands, Norberg is set to find a new home with the Bujdoso Family, who head up the Checkered Racing program and also import the PCR racing kart for the United States karting market.
“Robbie (Bujdoso) has been working with me on and off for the past two years,” explained an excited Norberg. “We really seem to gel well because he has a driver’s perspective, and I believe his background helps me find a consistent competitive set-up.”
Last year, Norberg competed in the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS) with Checkered Motorsports and really enjoyed what he calls “their competitive spirit.”
Norberg continued, “I want to win every chance I’m behind the wheel, and Cabsa Bujdoso, who heads up our Checkered Motorsports team, understands my intensity. It was after my third place finish during the annual Robopong event at New Castle Motorsports Park that we seriously began to consider a bigger commitment driving the PCR product for 2015.”
The highlights of Norberg’s final season running in the junior ranks included two international races. His first trip took him to the ROK Cup Finals at the famous South Garda, Italy karting circuit where he was able to compete up front and won one of the three heat races.
“I couldn’t have experienced such a wonderful event if it hadn’t been for Andre Martins with OTK. He had me set up from the moment I arrived with the best Tony Kart had to offer and, for that, I need to thank Andre and his staff at OTK USA,” added Norberg. One of his goals for the 2015 season is to return to the ROK Cup international finals again this year.
His second trip took him to Valencia, Spain to compete at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, which was Norberg’s second Grand Finals experience.
“I love being a part of Team USA and running Rotax, but with my new relationship with Checkered this year I will only be able to run some limited Rotax events. I would like to also send a special thank you to Richard Boisclair for his friendship and his continued effort to provide guys like me with the most professional racing experiences available.”
Other highlights for Norberg last year were a first place result at the ROK Cup USA Nationals, a second place result at the Cold Stone US Rotax Grand Nationals and a solid third place finish with team driver Sasha Brun-Wibaux at this year’s Robopong 200 Endurance event in Indiana.
The 16-year-old Norberg will start his rookie senior year at the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup Daytona Kart week sitting behind the wheel of his PCR MXK8 chassis running TaG X30 class.
“Last year was my first WKA Daytona event running with Checkered Motorsports, and I was happy to walk away with a second place finish.” Norberg continued, “I’m looking forward to racing TaG this year with some of the best senior drivers in the country.”
From there, the Checkered Motorsports driver will also be participating in the Florida Pro Kart Series (FPKS), Florida Winter Tour (FWT) ROK Cup USA program, the USPKS series and plans to attend the annual SuperKarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
