Team News: Checkered Motorsports – Daytona KartWeek Preview
The 2014 season has been a remarkable year for Checkered Motorsports. Clinching countless championships and victories the team looks to move forward going into Daytona Kartweek on Dec. 27-30. The black and yellow colors have been strong in Daytona in the past where the PCR karts have shown their ability to adjust to all types of track conditions. Eight drivers are set to represent the PCR colors at the unique Daytona circuit.
Two key additions to the team are drivers Zach Hancock and Olivier Bellanger. Both pilots are making their first debut with Checkered Motorsports. The Florida natives are competing in the Pro Iame Junior class. Bellanger running a BBS prepped engine is no stranger to Daytona where he competed back in 2012. A front runner in the Florida series, he looks to make a strong debut in his X30 package. Hancock aboard a Mxk8 is making his first appearance at the facility on his X30. Working along with AJ Myer’s this past summer, Hancock looks to adopt quickly to the technical Daytona circuit.
A handful of Senior drivers are set to for action in the Pro Leopard Senior, Pro X30 Senior, and the WKA Stock Moto class. Marking her first Senior debut is Sasha Brun-WiBaux. An impressive SuperNats XVII result, the young 15 year old seeks to keep the momentum going in Pro Leopard Senior. Joining her will be Evan Fritts, Austin Jordan, and AJ Myers. Evan Fritts has had some seat time in the Leopard package late in the season and is humbled to make a presence in the Senior division. With the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS) being Austin Jordan last visit with the team , he is set for strong results going into the weekend. The EKN #2 ranked Tag Driver, AJ Myers, has been racing anything he could get his hands on. Look for Myers on top of the charts throughout the weekend. Returning to Daytona is pilot Ryan Norberg. The two time Team USA driver came short from victory last year. Competing in the X30 Senior class and marking his first official start in the Senior category, Norberg awaits to regain the top spot on the podium.
The new addition of the WKA Stock Moto Class will be featuring Andrew Bujdoso and AJ Myers. Myers performing double duty, is no stranger with the gearbox package. Claiming an impressive fifth place finish in KZ at the SuperNats XVII Myers will be a contender in Stock Honda. Bujdoso has had a busy schedule this year competing in both the TaG and Shifter events. Seeking for another WKA victory, Bujdoso and Myers will leave nothing on the table in hopes to bring back some hardware.
“We’re looking to end the season strong, “explained team owner Csaba Bujdoso. “All the hard work has paid off thus far, but the season isn’t over yet. We have a great group drivers that I believe will represent us well. I am excited to end the season on a good note.”
