Rodgers Earns 2014 Great Lakes Sprint Series Champion
Team Birel USA pilot Gage Rodgers has been working hard in his first year as a Jr. Sportsman competitor. Rodgers committed to running the Great Lakes Sprint Series with races in Ohio, and Indiana. Racing in 3 classes and a total of 17 events, Rodgers had 3 wins, 14 Podiums, and 7 Pole Position during the season. Rodgers was able to secure two class championships winning the Micro Max Championship, sponsored by MRP Raceway in South Bend IN and also brought home the hardware in the Comer 80 class.
Rodgers had qualified on Pole in all five Rotax Micro Max events during the season, but came into the final event 3rd in points. Gage would have to beat Max Kaeser, of Ohio in the final two events. Gage and Max exchanged the lead in the final race with Gage taking the lead on the white flag lap and winning the championship.
In national competition with the World Karting Association Manufactures Cup, Gage raced in 8 events netting 2 National Poles and 6 Podium finishes. The results were good enough for Gage to earn a 4tn place finish in the National Cadet Division.
When asked how 2014 worked out Gage stated “2014 was a great year and we learned a ton, but it felt really good to win the championships…I can’t wait for Daytona in December.” Gage and his team would like to thank Flemming Racing Engines, and MRP Birel for their great products and support.
