Nine Drivers Ready for Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix Under CRG-USA Tent
Colorado-based operation set for California ProKart Challenge season finale
Just a few weeks after competing in Lake Elsinore, California, the CRG-USA race team travels back to the SoCal area to contest the popular Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix. The city of Lancaster hosts a three-day festival in the downtown district, with the Superkarts! USA California ProKart Challenge race at the headline event. The two-day competition will be the sixth and final round of the 2014 series, serving as the last tune-up event for the upcoming SuperNationals XVIII in Las Vegas this November.
Nine drivers will suit up in CRG gear and compete aboard the successful CRG kart in Lancaster. Two drivers lead the S1 Pro Stock Moto contingent, looking for victory. Jimmy McNeil has been close to a victory at the last few SOLGP events, dominating qualifying and the first heat in 2013 Jimmy’s run came to an end when a shift lever broke while leading Heat #2. Jimmy is primed to return as a contender in 2014. The ‘Flyin Hawaiian’ Alec Gumpfer is looking to move up the steps of the podium this year. Gumpfer finished third at last year’s event, and is ready to contend for the race victory.
The CRG-USA tent is full of drivers competing in the S4 Master Stock Moto division with six at the helm of a CRG chassis. Darrell Tunnell and Robert Marks are veterans of the SOLGP, and both are looking for their first victory at the street race. Victor Jimenez and Juan Garcia are making their second start at the California PKC program, with David Levy and Rob Vanderen traveling to the series for the first time with CRG-USA.
Rounding out the CRG-USA driver roster is SKUSA Pro Tour TaG Master point leader Billy Cleavelin. The veteran racer is heading into Lancaster chasing the California ProKart Challenge championship as well, sitting third in a close point battle. Cleavelin won last year’s SOLGP event by five-seconds, and hopes for a repeat this weekend.
Two faces that will not be under the CRG-USA tent are drivers Sabré Cook and Joey Wimsett, as both will be traveling to Europe to compete at the CIK-FIA KZ2 Super Cup event in Sarno, Italy on October 9-12. Located just east of Naples, the Circuito Internazionale Napoli will welcome 106 drivers to compete for the world crown. Cook will be making her European debut, while Wimsett returns to international competition for the first time since finishing second at last year’s Rotax Grand Finals in the DD2 category. Both will be working under the CRG factory tent, with Cook working directly with longtime CRG mechanic Franco ‘Bola’ Bologna.
CRG-USA is primed with great opportunities for drivers to be part of the growing race team or businesses looking to promote the world-championship CRG brand as part of the dealer network. CRG-USA is an official race team for SwedeTech Racing Engines, AiM Sports, and Sniper. Anyone interested in joining the team should contact Stacey Cook at 855.TEAMCRG or via email email@example.com.
