Temperatures and Lap Times Fall in Rental League Powered by Sunoco Race Fuels Round 2

GoPro Motorplex logoCool temperatures set in for tonight’s Round Two of the GoPro Motorplex Rental League Powered by Sunoco Race Fuels. However, the action on track heated up as lap times fell down into the low 61-second bracket. Three-wide, side-by-side finishes amongst the sold out fields of Light and Heavy division competitors and the entry of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Kyle Larson, in the Briggs LO206 division made tonight’s racing spectator-worthy to say the least!

Rental League Powered by Sunoco Race Fuels Round Two – Light Division
In the Light Division, three different winners were on the top step of the podium. Devin Jones got a smooth start in Race One after a strong qualifying effort and took the win with a huge lead over the field. In Race Two, the frontrunners of Ryan Shattuck, Sam McAulay and Ryan Chism raced hard for position. However, a shake-up on the last lap in the last turn caused race officials to alter the finishing order. After penalties were assessed, Shattuck took the win, followed by Coty Hartson and Chism. In Race Three, Brandon Webb led briefly before Shattuck stole the top spot early on. With four laps to go, Webb regained the lead. However, penalties came into play once again in a three-wide finish for the win. Ross Mcconnell took the surprise victory, followed by Shattuck and Jones.

Ryan Shattuck defended his points lead with 965 total points following Round Two, followed by Mcconnell with 910.

The Sunoco Race Fuels Quick Time Award in the Light Division went to Devin Jones with an impressive 61.485-second lap, earning himself a FREE Adult Rental Race.

Heavy Division –
In Race One, Jeff Dickinson shot off to an early lead, but Dan Kranefuss and Brad Buskirk were working together to run him down. Once the two drivers closed onto the leader’s bumper, they quickly ended their partnership and the race was on. Kranefuss and Buskirk’s battle actually became so hard-fought that it allowed Dickinson to pull away again. Dickinson went on to take the win. During Race Two, Kranefuss muscled his way to the lead by the end of lap one and never looked back, winning by over three seconds. It was a similar story in Race Three, but this time it was Mark Nahrstedt who checked out to a large lead on the field, winning by almost three seconds over the field as well.

Kranefuss leads the Heavy Division points standings after two rounds with 1,015 points and Nahrstedt is in second with 930 points.

With a 61.878-second lap, Brad Buskirk earned the Sunoco Race Fuels Quick Time Award, receiving a FREE Adult Rental Race!

Briggs LO206 Heavy Division-
The Briggs LO206 division competed again tonight with seven karts taking the green flag for two, 12-lap races. In Race One, Tim Shutt was the leader after three laps, but he was trailed closely by Brandon Jones. At halfway, Shutt continued to lead until Eric Jones made the pass for first entering the hairpin turn. Brandon Jones attempted to follow Eric past Shutt as well. However, Shutt shut the door on Brandon’s attempt, causing the whole field to bottle up in the hairpin turn. With two laps to go, Justin Marks made a move on Shutt to capture second place. Marks dove out to make a final attempt to pass Eric Jones at the line for the win. The two drivers finished side-by-side; Jones taking the win.

In Race Two, Kyle Larson led the pack of seven karts running nose-to-tail. However, on the last lap, Eric Jones made his signature pass in the hairpin to gain the lead. In a failed attempt to take the last turn three wide, Larson and Travis Law collided, while Eric and Brandon Jones went on to cross the finish line neck and neck for Eric Jones’ second win of the night.
