PR Engines Dominates TAG Senior in Two States
The last weekend of April was a busy one as PR Engines drivers contested in both the Texas Prokart Challenge at the Dallas Karting Complex as a tune up for the SKUSA Springnationas while one of the most competitive club championships in the country, LAKC, had their third round of the season at the Calspeed Karting Center. Louie Pagano would be the lone PR Engine driver in Texas using an IAME Leopard package in the TAG Senior category. Last year’s SKUSA Pro Tour runner-up would be the driver to chase all weekend as many top pilots from all over the country came to test for the following weekend’s Pro Tour event. After a 3rd pace qualifying effort, Pagano would power his way to the lead on the opening lap of the first heat and never look back the rest of the day. He would lead every lap of both heats and the main to a victory of nearly 7 seconds in only an 11 lap final. Pagano’s PR Engines Leopard/Sodikart was untouchable and he will be the favorite to be on top of the podium at the Springnationals.
Back home in California, five drivers would be using PR Engines power with two drivers in the PRD Junior and Masters categories and one in TAG Senior. Chance Skaufel would carry the banner in the PRD classes qualifying on the pole in the largest category of the day with 25 entries. Skaufel would go on to win the pre-final and would be looking strong to capture his second victory of the season. Getting shuffled back early in the race, Skaufel hit some water and slid into the barrier. The race would go full course yellow and he would battle back from 15th to 4th in only 6 laps setting fast lap in the process showing his PR Engines PRD/ART Grand Prix was the quickest kart all day. Bryce Murphy would finish 13th in PRD Junior, while Robert Montgomery and Brad Harvey would finish 11th and 13th respectively in PRD Masters.
Alejo Fernandez would debut the PR Engines IAME X-30 package for the first time in TAG Senior. Beginning to develop the package, Fernandez would prove head engine builder Daniel Patino has done the proper testing by putting in the drive of the day. Having to start last due to forgetting his neck collar in the pre-final, Fernandez powered from the back of the 16 kart field to the lead by halfway and went on to win the final setting fast lap in the process. The PR Engines X-30/Energy package brought home a victory in the engine’s debut and as development continues PR Engines will certainly continue to be the engine builder to beat in the TAG Senior division.
“It was a great weekend, winning in two states on two complete different engine packages and on different chassis,” explained head technician Daniel Patino. “We always are pushing to find as much power as possible and we can definitely go into the Pro Tour with confidence in our Leopard packages and the future as the X-30 becomes legal.”
