Team News: Checkered Motorsports – United States Pro Kart Series Mooresville Preview
Checkered Motorsports is coming in with full force for the first round of the United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS). The team is no stranger to GoPro Motorplex located in Mooresville, North Carolina as they have multiple wins and podium finishes at the circuit. The Ohio based team has much to prove as they set 14 pilots to take action for the opening weekend.
In Leopard 125 Jr. Checkered Motorsports will be utilizing Woltjer powered engines for all of their 5 drivers. Drivers will consist of Nolan Ruocco, Evan Fritts, Sasha Brun-Wibaux, Nick Luedeke, and former Team USA Rotax Grand Finals competitor Ryan Norberg. All equipped with the Super Strillo PCR chassis. All drivers have made an appearance to the track and should adapt to the MG yellow compound tires quickly.
Nick Luedeke and Evan Fritts are performing double duty as they are also contesting in Yamaha 100 Junior. Checkered Motorsports second female entry is Savannah Fitzgerald. The 13 year old has made significant gains so far during the 2014 season and looks to top last year’s performance.
Rejoining the team is Kyle Smith as he sets to take on a full season in the USPKS series. Along his side will be 4 veteran pilots that consist of Dominic Tesoro, AJ Myers, Andrew Bujdoso, and Austin Jordan. AJ Myers has transitioned to his PCR kart quickly, but Tesoro is making is first debut with the team. Austin Jordan coming off a solid run in the opening round of the Rok Cup USA series will get his first taste of a TaG engine at Mooresville.
Weston Moon has returned back in the driver’s seat for the 2014 season. Moon who has recently come back from the National Guard is looking to come back with action. Moon is entered in the Yamaha 100 Pro division.
In the Sportsman class it will be led by J.P. Southern Jr. Coming off a stellar weekend in the first two rounds of the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, tallying up eight victories thus far, he looks to push his success into this weekend as he is competing in both Yamaha 100 Cadet and Mini-Rok 60 class. A new addition to the team will be Nico Montileone. It marks Montileone’s first national event in Yamaha Rookie.
Francois Brun-Wibaux is aboard his PCR Mxk8 and is entered in the Parilla 125 Challenge. With the teams expertise he looks to put the black and yellow colors up front.
Checkered Motorsports owner Csaba Bujdoso states, “We have a great group of drivers, and our main objective is to prove what our karts are capable of doing. The team is building a strong core group of people which is vital to a successful 2014 season. We’ve recruited great assets to the team and hope to capitalize on the opportunity.”
The team will be contesting in the USPKS Series, Gear Up F-Series, WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, as well as the Pitt Race Karting Series.
