Carolina Motorsports Park to Host WKA Twin Bill Next Weekend

The popular Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina, will host one of the busiest national kart racing events of the year April 4-6 when the World Karting Association’s Manufacturers Cup and Road Racing series call the calm, scenic confines of CMP home for three days in early spring.

Round two of the 2014 WKA Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series will race on the 0.7-mile CMP Sprint Course, while the second round of WKA’s National Road Racing Series, sponsored by VEGA tires and TS Racing, will run for the 15th consecutive year on CMP’s 2.3-mile road course.

While most kart races in the Southeast consist of smooth red clay and left turns only, the first weekend of April will see many of the country’s best road-course karting drivers and teams travel to the Carolinas for the sprint / enduro twin bill.

At the sprint track, the HYTORC of Texas $1,000 bonus will be on the line for senior IAME Leopard and X30 drivers. The Parilla Senior class will pay the $1,000 bonus to the driver who earns the best average finish between Saturday and Sunday’s Parilla Senior finals.

Junior racers age 12 to 15 will be vying for a cool $500 bonus in Parilla Junior posted by Arai Helmet and Butler Built. The Parilla Junior racer who drives to the best average finish in the weekend’s two Parilla Junior finals will earn the $500 check.

The weekend’s senior IAME racers who win the cash bonuses will also earn the special crystal IAME Cup trophies, posted at all WKA Man Cup events in 2014.

Other highlights at the Zoom Zoom Nationals include Kid Karts, sponsored by CRP Racing, making its debut as a national points class. The class already has a number of entries.

On the road racing side CIK-style and full bodywork enduro-style karts will contest CMP’s 2.3-mile road course during the running of the 15th Annual Johnny Jacumin Memorial. The event, named in memory of its first promoter, will feature high speeds and exciting racing from the Road Racing Series’ Stock Honda shifters, 100cc and 125cc laydown enduros, Rotax and Leopard TaG karts and Briggs Animal sprint-enduros and more over the three-day stretch.

Waltrip was a head announcer for WKA’s Speedway Dirt Series during its heyday, and continued to announce prestigious indoor races, trade shows and other events. WKA last saw Bobby at the AKRA Trade Show, which he was announcing, this past January.
