WKA Gold Cup Series Ramping Up for 2014 Season Opener at Jacksonville

Ionic Edge Chassis Nationals entry form now available

The World Karting Association RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series closed its 2013 campaign with a strong event at Carolina Motorsports Park this past October. The Performance North / Jammer Clutches Nationals, which originally was to be held at North Carolina’s Rockingham Speedway but was moved to Kershaw when in September Rockingham closed unexpectedly, saw approximately 200 entries attend and some of the best 4-cycle sprint racing in recent memory.

The CMP Gold Cup national’s highlights included three class champions – Dylan Murry in Pro Gas Animal Sportsman, Tanner Lee in Junior Pro Gas Animal and Dylan Zobkiw in Senior Pro Gas Animal – taking home brand-new Margay, Razor and Coyote karts as part of a prestigious year-end awards package for each class’s national champion. The event also drew 25 entrants in Senior Pro Gas and another 15 in Sportsman Pro Gas, marking a couple of the best fields of the season at any Gold Cup national.

The series will stay in the South for its next event, the Ionic Edge Chassis Nationals 2014 season opener at the popular 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, coming up this March 7-9.

This year’s series includes a major shakeup in the Gold Cup national class structure, which will cut down the number of classes and number of national championships for the 4-cycle sprint series.

Only 11 divisions will run each day, including a total of three methanol and Pro Gas Animal classes for Sportsman (age 7 to 12), Junior (age 12 to 15) and Senior (age 15 and up). For each age category, one class will be methanol Animal only, one Pro Gas Animal only and one a mix.

The other two classes to run each day are LO206 Kid Kart for youngsters age 5 to 7 and LO206 Senior for racers age 15 and up.

Officials are expecting another strong Gold Cup showing at 103rd Street this March. This year’s event will mark the fourth consecutive year the Gold Cup has opened at Jacksonville and the 11th time since 1997.
