Series News: Red Line Oil Series Kick Off Second Half of 2013 Season

Red Line Oil Karting Championship logoThe August 10-11 Red Line Oil Karting Championships season marks the mid point of the summer season and also the start of the second half of the 2013 racing season.  The track configuration will be the original long straight National track with the GoPro featured class being the Pro Stock Honda class. Daniel Langon has been the faster qualifier but Jason Toft has won the most races with Nic LeDuc knocking on the door and ready to take over the top spot in the fastest class of the series. To add the improving performances of Michael Raimes and Pro Stock rookie Alex Keyes, will make this weekend’s Pro Stock race full of competitive action.

With record turn out in almost all the classes, the competition for the top 3 to 5 positions is very much up for grabs.  The Rotax classes continue to be one of the largest regional turn outs in the nation and the Red Line Oil series currently has the largest membership for Rotax Max Challenge in the US.  The shifter classes are stronger this year in both numbers and competitive drivers, making for some very exciting racing. The new Evo electric class continues to improve performance, showcasing what the future could look like in karting. IAME spec gear TaG class has a three kart battle for the class championship with the class continuing to grow.

Saturday will feature the RES Electric kart class and two Simraceway Arrive and Drive classes.  Practice is available for all other classes, with as many as 8 practice sessions during the day. Practice starts at 8:30 AM and runs to 6:00 PM.  Registration will open at 7:30 AM.  Practice is open to all drivers who have a kart that meets current karting safety specs and the drivers are up to normal racing speeds.  Cost is $50.

The Sunday Raceday begins at 8:10 AM with a quick round of practice for the 9 race groups followed by a 5 lap group Qualify, two 8 lap Pre-Mains and a 15 lap Main.  Registration will open at 6:45 AM.  Race Entry is $100, $10 for transponder rental if needed; $10 for all crew and spectators, kids under 12 years old is $5.  All sign-ins are at the admin building on the right side as you enter Sonoma Raceway, look for the Red Line Registration sign.  You can get more info about the RLOKC as well as a weekend schedule by going to

Nominations for the Mini and Micro Max Invitational at NOLA have to be submitted by RLOKC before September 30th. Due to the fact the Sanzaru NorCal Rotax Max Challenge Championship will not be decided until November, the nomination will go the point leaders in each class after the September 22nd race. The points total will allow a one race drop. If the nominated driver does not wish to go to the NOLA event then the “ticket” will be offered to next driver in the points standings.
