Tyler Cooke Continues his Winning Ways in Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series Round Three

Stock Car Steel-SRI MMX logoTyler Cooke, Jason Bowles, Ryan Shattuck and Tim Voth all took home victories in Round Three of the Stock Car Steel/SRI five-week championship series at Mooresville Motorplex (MMX). All four divisions of final races, with the exception of a few laps of the Rental Kart League Light division final heat, made it in before a heavy rain moved through the area tonight.

Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series Round Three – TaG Senior Division
It was familiar face, Tyler Cooke, who was back on the TaG Senior podium top spot in Round Three, repeating his Round Two victory and increasing his points lead over Jason Bowles to 50 points. After only five laps of the 25-lap final, Cooke was all over the bumper of pole sitter, Colin Braun. Cooke made the pass for the lead on Braun in the bowl turn as the halfway flags flew.

Meanwhile, it was Bowles and Jack Weprin who were battling hard for the third position and swapping positions each corner. For a finish, Cooke crossed the line over a kart length in front of Braun and Bowles rounded out the top three.

TaG Masters Division –
In the TaG Masters 20-lap final race, Jason Bowles took the checkered flag in first place. The field hadn’t even completed lap one when Bowles and Randy Sampson collided causing Sampson to spin in front of the field. Sampson’s spin collected Jeremy Fuller and sidelined him for the remainder of the race.

The chaos up front allowed Tim Shutt to sneak by and move into the lead. However, by halfway, Bowles completed a pass on Shutt in the bowl turn for the lead. Shutt pulled into the pits early with an apparent mechanical failure. Bowles went on to take the win, while Chuck Tate and Sampson finished second and third, respectively.

Rental Kart League Light Division –
It was a perfect night for Ryan Shattuck who scored the Rental Kart League Light division points win overall and celebrated his birthday at MMX! Under the new Rental League format, the driver with the highest combined total of heat race points wins overall for the night. Shattuck won Heat One, Slow Stig was victorious in Heat Two and CJ grabbed the final, Heat 3 win. However, with only two rounds left to determine the champion, it was MattMan who moved into first place in the overall Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series points standings.

Rental Kart League Heavy Division –
The competition was tough in the Rental Kart League Heavy division, with three different winners in Round Three. Tim Voth was awarded the points win overall for the night, as well as the victory in Heat Two. Djb_rh won Heat One, while Evil 7 was victorious in Heat Three. Mark Nahrstedt continues to lead the points standings for the Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series in the Rental League Light division.
