Top-Level Racing Returns to Shawano as Midwest ProKart Challenge Travels to Wisconsin
Superkarts! USA regional program visits US Air Motorsports Raceway May 31-June 1
One of the most challenging courses in North America is located in Shawano, Wisconsin. The US Air Motorsports Raceway – site of the 2010 SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals – will welcome back Superkarts! USA racing as the Midwest ProKart Challenge travels to the facility on May 31-June 2 for rounds three and four of the 2013 season. This will be the first major event held at the facility this season, giving shifterkart and TaG racers in the surrounding Great Lakes area a unique opportunity while continuing the Midwest PKC championship chase.
“The US Air Motorsports Raceway is among Wisconsin’s premiere kart tracks, if not one of the finest in the United States,” commented Midwest ProKart Challenge director Stan Bryniarski. “It’s a pleasure to return to this facility, and our drivers are really excited about taking on the challenging course. We had to battle Mother Nature at our opening event in Pevely, Missouri, and now we get to battle a perfectly laid out track for shifterkarts and TaG racers to enjoy. We will see a number of drivers from Minnesota and Wisconsin, and we are gaining a lot of interest from competitors all across the Great Lakes area. It’s hard to pass up an opportunity to race with Superkarts! USA, let alone the track in Shawano.”
The TaG Cadet category continues to shine at the Midwest ProKart Challenge, with five racers taking part in the opening rounds in April and numbers expected to double in Shawano. Jamie Williams won both finals at the opening rounds at the I-55 Speedway, with Samuel Paley and Max Kaeser trailing. Derek Crockett, Nick Lougee, Mick Gabriel and Kris Dickson were the top drivers in the S1 Pro, S2 Semi-Pro, TaG Senior and S4 Master classes. Each category is expected to see more competition in Shawano. The S5 Junior Stock Moto category has produced a number of talented drivers from the region, with Erik Nelson the latest driver to step up to the front of the field after winning the opening two rounds.
The Midwest ProKart Challenge also welcomes local option classes aside from the SKUSA core class structure. The opportunity for local racers to experience the SKUSA-style atmosphere is key to the organizations growth over the past few seasons. Among the local option selections is the Open Shifter category, which will be offered at the Shawano event along with the series finale at New Castle Motorsports Park as part of the SKUSA Midwest Shifterfest scheduled for the September 13-15 weekend. The Shifterfest will be a celebration of shifterkart racing in the Eastern half of the United States, serving as a great warm-up event for the SKUSA SuperNationals – all while welcoming drivers from SKUSA’s past to return to the track. A solid purse featuring $1000-to-win is scheduled for the Open Shifter category at New Castle, providing the field meets the 10-kart minimum. Anything over that number could expand the purse even further. Racers can accomplish two tasks next weekend in Shawano: compete on a state-of-the-art course and prepare for September’s SKUSA Midwest Shifterfest.
Those who were at the opening weekend in Pevely, Missouri will be able to continue on the path toward entry into the priority registration program for the SKUSA SuperNationals XVII this November in Las Vegas. Competitors who compete at both the Pevely and Shawano events are set to be part of the SKUSA membership list that will register early to insure their participation at the 17th annual event outside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on November 20-24. Midwest PKC champions in the categories that average five competitors throughout the season will also be granted a guaranteed starting position on SuperSunday for the main despite their results during the SuperNationals event.
