EKN Constructors Championship – May 1, 2013
Tony Kart begins back on top over CRG and Birel
The 2013 karting season is well underway in the United States and across the world. A busy first third of the calendar year has already passed, with 10 events already in the books for the eKartingNews.com Constructors Championship. A wide variety of chassis brands have scored points with many more expected. The top chassis thus far was the same brand to win the 2012 title – Tony Kart.
Tony Kart was the top brand at four events thus far, taking a lead of 75 points. The Florida Winter Tour was the site of its best weekends, earning the most amount of points at all three Rotax Max Challenge events in the Sunshine state. The fourth event was the recent United States Pro Kart Series, with the leading OTK Group brand earning a number of victories and podium finishes at the inaugural event. CRG holds the second spot, thanks to one solid weekend at the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour. With a number of victories and podium finishes, CRG gained 180 points in the double round weekend thanks in part to a number of CRG-USA drivers. Unfortunately, CRG has yet to score points outside of that and will need more as the season moves forward.
Third in the order is the Birel brand. A solid Florida Winter Tour campaign in addition to a solid outing by the 3G Kart Racing operation at the SpringNationals propelled them into the third position. Arrow, always a consistent challenger, sits fourth with a best result coming from the WKA Daytona KartWeek where they placed third overall under the eyes of the KartSport North America program. Capping off the top-five is the Kosmic line, placing two OTK brands inside the top-five. Thanks to the performance of the Rolison Performance Group drivers at the Rotax Challenge of the Americas, Kosmic was the top brand all three weekends.
Top Kart scored top points in the remaining two events, and is currently sixth in the order. The top points earner at both rounds of the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series events of the season, Top Kart USA program is continuing the momentum earned from last year in the series. FA Kart, Intrepid, Haase, and ART GP completed the top-10.
