Stock Car Steel-SRI MMX logoMooresville Motorplex (MMX) is excited to announce the creation of their next five-race points championship, the Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series, beginning on May 15 and sponsored by Stock Car Steel and Aluminum/SRI, a full-line steel and service center based in Mooresville, N.C., that offers a diverse metals and plastics product line to many of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams in the area.

“I had no idea how much fun I would have with karting until I got to experience it firsthand at Mooresville Motorplex,” said Greg Fornelli, owner of Stock Car Steel/SRI. “Now, karting is a passion of mine. Stock Car Steel and SRI’s involvement with MMX makes sense for us, because it brings in all the local racing talent, which is our customer base. Seeing our signs around such a cool facility always makes me happy when I pull into the MMX parking lot. Now, with the Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series coming up, we’ll be even more visible at the track. We can’t wait to see how this championship series turns out.”

The Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series will run on Wednesday nights for five weeks from May 15 through June 19, with the exception of Wednesday, May 22. The series will take the May 22 date off for the running of the GoPro® Be a HERO Karting Challenge, which will NOT be a points race or associated with the Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series.

The Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series Schedule:
May 15
May 29
June 5
June 12
June 19-Champions Night

The points championship will feature the TaG Senior and TaG Masters classes as well as a Light and Heavy division of rental kart racing using MMX’s fleet of Sodikart RT8 390cc karts, the newest and most advanced machines in the industry.

Competitors in the TaG Masters and TaG Senior classes can pre-register for the complete Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series through our ONLINE STORE. There is a $50 discount for registering for all five races before May 15, for a total cost of $250 to run the entire series. Different for the Stock Car Steel/SRI Championship Series Rental Kart League will be a completely new format that features an eight-minute practice session and three, 10-lap heat races. The driver with the highest combined points total from all three heat races will win overall for the night. All three heat races will count for points towards the championship series title as well.

This new format will give Rental League competitors more opportunities for structured racing and increase fairness by eliminating kart selection advantages because all three heat races count for points, instead of just in a final.
