Jim Howe Motorsports has announced a 17-race schedule for drivers Cokie and Emma Gaich, both of Indianapolis, for their maiden season of kart racing in 2013.

Fourteen locked-in events and three tentative dates, all in Indiana, comprise the schedule for the Columbus, Indiana-based kart team for the sisters, 14-year-old Cokie in Junior Supercan and 12-year-old Emma in Junior Sportsman. The girls will drive matching JHM #62 Birel racing karts with BBS Race Engine Development Yamahas providing the power.

The season starts April 13 at WhitelandRacewayPark in its Tony Stewart Junior Racing Series before concluding at the same track on Oct. 12. The duo will also race for points with the Indy Karting Series (IKS) and Southern Indiana Racing Association (SIRA) clubs, which compete at various street circuits in central and southern Indiana.

The team’s first street race is May 4 in Anderson’s annual “Mayor’s Cup Grand Prix” (SIRA) in the downtown area. Additional big events include the “Little Detroit Grand Prix” in Connersville (SIRA), “Seymour Grand Prix” (IKS), “CERAland Grand Prix” in Columbus (SIRA) and “Mooresville Grand Prix” (IKS).

“We feel very good about our schedule and believe it will be both fun and a learning experience for the girls,” team owner Jim Howe said. “We love the Whiteland track and look forward to running several races there this year, especially the Saturday night events that owner Mike Swails and crew put on. But we will also enjoy the competitiveness, professionalism, and variety provided by IKS and SIRA with their street circuits.”

Testing for the team begins March 15 at CERAlandPark with additional sessions scheduled at Whiteland in late March/early April before the April 13 opener.

The Gaich sisters are graduates of the Glass Hammer Racing kart program of Indianapolis (http://beatbyagirl.org), participating in the GHR indoor training sessions since June 2010. GHR encourages young women to participate in motorsports and includes on- and off-track training sessions at FastTimesIndoorKartingCenter in Indianapolis with coaching by female drivers including up-and-coming USAC midget star Jessica Bean and Indy 500 driver Pippa Mann.
