For my English Composition II class we had to write about how a sport, music, or technology had affected our life. I wrote about racing. But apparently my teacher doesn't think racing is a sport and decided to give me a 10% in which she added "Your paper is brilliant Kyle but racing is neither a sport or a sort of technology." There was one error where something was accidentally capitolized, otherwise it was perfect.

I tried talking with her and explaining how racing (and my paper eventually led to karting) is a sport. She apparently didn't like me questioning her and said she will think about re-grading it but if she does she wouldn't give me more than a 70%. I had an A in the class before... And this chick next to me wrote a paper about cheerleading...

Just my life. Nothing new.

Just the opposite of this teacher's thinking is the truth, cheerleading is not a sport and karting is...... Rolling Eyes

I would invite the teacher to drive your kart and see how her opinion changes after doing 25 hard laps. I bet she would be sore for days. I would also ask her what her definition of sport and technology is...

Is this a HS class? Take it over her head to the dept. Did your subject have to get prior approval before submitting your paper? Specifically, if there were no prerequisites regarding the definition of what constitutes a "legitimate" sport (ie. if there were no explicit caveats for choosing subjects), then you're being "discriminated" against (tip: Learn to use specific words & phrases to leverage your arguments in the eyes of authority).

Don't be afraid to fight for yourself or your position.

Wow!

Have your "teacher" do a quick search on the internet for highest paid athletes. Ask her what she finds.

At one time I think Michael Schumacker was classified as the highest paid athlete in the world.

Fight it, dude!

Its just another example of a tenured teacher with an overinflated idea of their own self worth.

There are several references to motorsports in that article. Use it to win your case!

Kyle,

I went through the same thing back in Grade 10 when I wrote a short story focused on stock car racing. I had been going to stock car races since the day I was born and lived and breathed the sport. My teacher decided to give me a D and his only comment was that I should have written about something that I knew about.

Luckily, my mother is also a teacher and she marched into the school and reamed the guy a new one in front of his principal, citing my 15 years of grandstand viewing and magazine reading on the sport.

You may want to enlist your parents on this one. And you might want to send her to this link for Race Car Engineering - The International Journal of Motorsport TECHNOLOGY.

This is a college class. I still cannot beleive it. Its very frustrating. I will let you guys know what she does. We only write 4 essays a year and it is a significant portion of the grade.

If the story is not about a sport, then she should have been specific as to what she defines as a sport. Teacher, you said write about a sport, and I define this as a sport. If you don't define it as a sport, let me enlighten you through my paper. Now go make me a sandwich.

ESPN sport channel has World Series Porker and Nationel Speling Bea (lol) Should have used one of these top sports.
Gotta go, ESPN has MONSTER TRUCKS on.

Look, they have racing numbers and everything. Someone get this kid a Cadet with a $2000.00 comer, pipe of the week,
doped tires and a one off, $6000.00 dollar chassis.
