| So what was the original discussion before the blow up LOL I think it was about the calls or lack there of at the Man-Cup races. Has a lot to be desired in my opinion. Especially after the Tech over-turn over at Road America |

Jeff, all and all, I think the man cup is in need of a few adjustments. Not a rebuild. Some have been done, and some are still in need. |

also, I guess no one knows the answers to my questions about how the points work on chassis w/different names made by the same mfr. or my question of why there is no engine builders cup.
I think no one has a problem with drivers being there for the purpose of winning points for the chassis cup AS LONG AS they drive fair and clean so that they don't potentially mess up one of the drivers who is there battling for individual points. I can give you one example - my son was battling with Eric Jones (Arrow) for the win on Sat. for Yamaha SC Lite and I can tell you that Eric raced w/him absolutely 100% clean and fair, just as he always does. He's a very skilled and respectful driver and we always enjoy racing with him - total class act on and off the track.
But it sounds like from these posts there were problems in other races and the sportsman classes? I wasn't watching so I don't know. But again, no one is offering potential solutions if they think it is a problem.
Now, while we are on the subject of race starts, why is it that they have started punishing both drivers and inverting the whole row this year. In the past, there were times when they would only punish/invert the offending driver. It's not fair to the one driver who was doing it correctly. Most of the time, the offender will be the outside pole b/c pole is supposed to set the pace. If the outside pole doesn't go w/the polesitter's pace, then he/she will usually be the offender. On some occasions the pole will be accelerating too soon and then I guess the pole would be the offender. Either way, just punish/invert the offending driver, not both. That's really unfair.
(I know sometimes they get pushed from behind and it's not their fault, but that is a matter all together different and I guess the officials just have to watch for that.) |
Kelly, Let me try and answer some of your questions..
First on the starts...
A couple years ago (at Charlotte) I talked with the head flagman (after the event was over) about how fast the younger (ie sportsman drivers) were entering the first corner after the green. At that time, I had no driver or vested interest in these classes. I told him ," that after watching sportsman class after sportsman class entering the first "green" turn at full race speed something needed an adjustment. With kids (and their dad's) entering the first corner (side by side) at full race speed , was not a good idea and that was why they had so many wrecks and injuries. He did listen to what I had to say, and agreed.
That was two years ago.....This is why I welcomed the inforcement at N.J. because the first green turn at that track is rough. Here is an example of my daughter at that track last year...in the first "green" turn..

Let it load..
So when the starter was "picky" on the starts , it bothered me less.
IMO, the sportman drivers are in need of this more than the older drivers. It may help if they have the "firing line" closer to the corner in the younger age classes.
Also, I know that if someone is pushing me from behind, even two or three, I can stop the whole row. I laugh when the pole guy blames the second row.
On the second note... My problem with this race was more of the push and shove and it was done in areas that were (unattended) imo.
We figured it out, delt with it and won the last race. I just didn't like what I had to say to my driver before the last race started on how to deal with it. If we have to race like this, so be it. We will adjust, but it is not my wish or my daughters.
BTW Eric Jones is great example of what this sport and series are in need of.
P.S. Sobel, Jr or senior please don't reply.

| As I have stated before, my 11 year old son never posted anything that would have to do with responding to your post! |
