Tom if your son was fortunate to make it to nascar would you still call it nascrap. If he won the championship but no races would you tell him he's not a champion. I THINK NOT. You would be in the front row wearing a I Love nascar shirt bragging to all your freinds that your son was a champion.

He has ZERO interest in nascrap or driving it. Karting is a hobby for him. His interest are in the military, even talking Westpoint these days. Everyone knows getting into nascrap has nothing to do with how much you love driving or how good you are at it. Soon nascrap will be completly made up of sons and daughters of old washed up ex-nascrap drivers. Its half way there now.
Now if he got offered a F1 or INDY ride he would jump on it. They turn right too don't they? But we all know that will never happen. There is way to many dreamers in karting that need to accept that its a fun hobby and nothing more. Race every race like it could be your last. You may loose your job and have to give it up.

when we first started 7 years ago we envisioned someday racing professionally. then reality struck! sure it would be nice but we are here for the fun. if something more comes then great. we can't afford to run with the big boys and know that we are very limited in the amount of exposure we would ever get by running club races. we have ran a man. cup before and probably will again.

i'm not patting myself on the back but we are better than average. we have run with beasley and bujdoso and at times have beaten them (although its been awhile since we have!). so if we race a man. cup next year and run good and finish top 3 should we be ousted for not being a regular? we would be racing to win, not to earn points. as long as we race as clean as anyone else i don't see the problem. we certainly wouldn't be hired by a factory team but what difference would it make? we are all there to race.

i say if they race clean then who cares who paid their way in. they have just as much right to race as a 'full-timer' thats going for the championship. what difference would it make if we won or a hired gun won? its still another competitor. just because we can't afford to run the full series doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to race for the win when we do enter, as long as its clean.

I doubt they are hired guns. Even Jamie Mcmurry buys or rents his stuff. Don't worry Dan, anyone can win in karting. Thats the beauty of it. We are still on our 06 chassis running motors I build at home.

Nobody likes to be knocked out of races, but I'd think for many the point of going to "big" races is that you might find you're up against better than average competition, and sometimes up against a McMurray or Weldon or other fast racers. Makes for a more interesting story at least.

Tom Sekey if racing is just a back yard hobby and you have no intrest in the next level than dont' coment on what you dont know. It makes you not sound smart. Not trying to be negitive but as a carpenter i dont but in on a auto body guys problems and try to tell him that he's doing his job wrong. But i guess it dont matter cause it seems you wont be involved with karting soon and you wont be interested in giving advice on something you know nothing about. Thank you for trying.

Where is this thread going? Confused

It appears that more than a couple of folks find the idea of racing for the pure fun of competing is somehow offensive. Confused

I don't get it!! Rolling Eyes

This thread has careened waaaaay off course.

I know that I count myself as one of the people who enjoys karting for fun, and not a course to anything else. That doesn't mean we don't take it seriously, in fact we probably take it more seriously than the nascar bound crowd because it's what we do.

The original comments by Jim Rogero were that he felt that there were people who were brought in by some of the chassis manufacturers to help ensure that their drivers would win races. I believe Jim's implication was that some of those drivers were over aggressive and had a win at all costs attitude. Moreover, my interpretation of Jim's comments were that he felt as though the officials were lax to do anything about the aggressive behavior. Feel free to correct me Jim if I misinterpreted anything you remarked on.

I followed up Jim's comments by saying that, although there were some extra drivers in the senior classes, I didn't believe the behavior was any more or less aggressive than normal, nor did I witness anything unusual in the junior races that I watched.

Later Jim responded that it was happening in the sportsman classes.

So now that we are all clear that no one racing in New Jersey is planning a career in NASCAR, Indycar, F1, NHL, or the NFL, we can all get back to the real question, which is....

Does having a manufacturer's championship in WKA increase aggressive behavior by drivers/teams having a "win at all costs" attitude? Secondly, if so, would awarding points to the top 5 instead of just the winner reduce the "win or nothing" attitude?

Anyone know why there was a different main flagman in the last two man cup races when the mains started?
Anyone know where the replacement flagman was before he became the replacement flagman?
