Some thoughts after attending last weeks manufacture's cup.
After attending or participating in this series for many years, I do not think the late George Kugler would have liked or wanted to see what some of the "manufactures" are doing. I would also think that some of this series major sponsors like Mazda would be in disappointment.
The manufactures need to think about others more than themselves. The grass roots karters are the back bone of this series.
The "mafia" "cult" environment will destroy it's growth.

I doubt that it's sour grapes since Ashley won, I would be very interested in hearing more of Jim's take on things.

No, sorry I was on the big track this weekend.

I am interested to hear what he's referring to though.

I think it is in regards to the fact that some of the manufacturers brought in drivers to try and win certain divisions to garner the Manufacturers Cup....

If so called team racing is ON and you are the target, its the ultimate complement.

Also

If you are the target......tighten your helmet a little tighter and dont forget to tell your dad or your team manager to wear a bullet proof vest that protects front and back in the pit area. lol

I also thought that might be what he was referring to. If the chassis mfr. cup points are close near the end of the year, the chassis mfrs. in contention start bringing in addtl. drivers to try to win points. The concern is that these drivers haven't been racing all year competing for an individual National points championship so they don't have any "skin in the game" so to speak. And since you only get points for a Win in the chassis mfr. cup, their only purpose is to win. So there is concern that they may do whatever it takes to secure the win - even if that means rough driving or taking someone out. This is a concern to the racers that have been there running all year for points and are trying to win an individual points championship. It's a valid concern.

So I'd like to pose a question to see what others think: Do you think if they awarded points for 2nd, 3rd, etc. for the chassis mfr. cup race instead of only getting points for the win that this might help? Then maybe there would not be as much of a "win or go home" mentality that might lead to desperate moves if you know you can still get points for the chassis cup chase for 2nd, 3rd, etc.?
or it wouldn't help anyway?
or should they just get rid of the chassis mfr. cup?

Just wondering what others think.

Are people really complaining that teams hire drivers to win races? Uh...I know I wasnt there this race, but I have been racing WKA for 14 years and this is nothing new I mean nothing new. Stop your crying and just go race. If these drivers didnt cause accidents and raced clean then there is nothing to complain about.

Just curious, exactly what does the "Winner" of the Manufactures’ Cup receive? Is it just bragging rights or is there more to it?

Please, excuse my ignorance.

Some of them raced clean, but according to the comments made before mine - apparently some of them didn't.

Q: Why do karts cost so much? A: "Professional" drivers and handouts.

I didn't really watch the sportsman races, but in the junior and senior races that I did watch, I really didn't think there was any more aggressiveness than normal. Yes, there were certainly extra drivers brought in by Arrow and Birel, but it didn't appear to be anything more than stacking the deck or improving the odds of a win. Perhaps more went on in the sportsman races that I didn't see though.
