| Which makes less noise, Yamaha can with 4 holes down or 4 holes at 90 degrees? I've got the can with 4 holes up and it's really loud. |

Wear ear plugs!!!
No matter how quiet or loud you think it is, ear plugs are better then hearing aids. |

The SSX-V (the four holes 90 degrees apart) was designed to be quieter than the original SSX can. Pointing the holes down does help with noise, but it can play havoc with things like axle bearings due to excessive heat.

| I don't know why they didn't just put the 4 holes in the end cap like the 3 hole can. |

I belong to Badger along with Mark Baier from above. We (we're both on the board) are pretty convinced that the SSX-V is slightly quieter than the SSX 4 holes up. We instituted the SSX-V to help with the sound (we have sound ordinances) and to eliminate the "can of the month" club and keep the class spec.
However, in enduro, both sit-up and laydown, me & my guys all use the 4-holes up version to prevent getting exhaust all over the bearings and body work. Like Jean, I DO have to wear ear plugs as my head is usually right next to that can!
Curious. What was the root of your question? "Sound at your track" or "loud in your helmet"? Would be interesting if you had noise issues at your track like we do. |

| No noise issues at the track but, we don't want any either. I myself like the quiet power of the pipe but, my body can't take the pounding. Too bad they don't make a KT50 Yamaha. |
