I'm wondering if any others in the karting business have noticed a sharp increase in shipping costs using UPS?
I've had two occasions in recient weeks where I needed to place a small special order and the shipping costs were what I considered outlandish.
Examples:
$7.70 order from AIM, ground UPS charges= $10.10
$18.84 order from Target, ground UPS charges= $13.30
I use FedEx Ground for most of my shipping and I have not seen anything like this. The $13.30 charge from Target would have been $6.88 on my FedEx account.
Anyone else seen this?

| More karting shops should use the if it fits it ship boxes with USPS. It's a lot more convenient for folks to go to their local post office than the UPS place which could be many miles away if signature is required or it can't be dropped off. In many cases a good bit cheaper as well. |

You are right, George, and I'm getting more and more request to ship that way. $4.95 for a small box, Priority mail. Not so bad.

Doesn't suprise me Don, but my invoice just says "freight". Seems everyone is trying to get their hand in our pockets and the karters complain about the prices. I don't blame them, but it's not all our fault. The Euro is the biggest offender.
UPS does not seem to be helping either.

One of the items that I found with USPS is that you do need to use confirmation which costs .70. But the nice thing is USPS will come pick up the packages no charge. With if it fits it ships you don't have to buy boxes either. First choice for local one day Fedex anything further than one day USPS priority flat rate. UPS last choice. _________________ OK everyone It's my opinion only, no one elses, and does not reflect any organization or office that I belong to or hold. Thank you for your support.

I have been using USPS more everyday. But I have shipped about 600 ebay items over the last few months and they have lost five things. UPS and Fedx have never lost anything for me. _________________ Doug Fleming

I ship UPS everyday - anywhere between 1 to 80 or so packages. The main thing you have to watch for with UPS is residential delivery. Tack on a minimum of $2 if it's residential. Fortunately, I ship almost exclusively b2b. My trade association also has a deal with UPS where we get a 20% rebate fro published prices as well.
I won't ship anything I'm not comfortable in losing via USPS. Their tracking is a complete joke-I can't believe they even have it / offer it. When your package doesn't even show up in the system until after it's delivered, the tracking system flat out sucks. _________________ Spec TaG Masters @ NCMP / #23 |

USPS is the best for small packages.
The flat rate boxes are FREE.
You can order them up to 800 or so at at time on the USPS website and they will deliver them free too.
Delivery confirmation is FREE if you pay for postage online.. which is better anyway since you can print your label at the same time.
Just remember.. Delivery Confirmation is NOT tracking. Sometimes it updates fairly often and sometimes it only updates after delivery. So don't rely on it.
Again, its Delivery Confirmation... NOT tracking. _________________ www.dromophotos.com |

| I've had stuff lost through both UPS and USPS. USPS was slower with the claim but less painful--had to present an ad for similar item to substantiate claim amount. UPS wanted me to obtain a police report (for what? how do we know for sure they delivered it). |

Tony-you're talking about 2 different things - delivery confirmation and tracking. I'm talking about tracking. With UPS, if a client calls up and wants to know where their stuff is, I can tell them. With USPS tracking, it may not even be in their system by the time it's delivered. _________________ Spec TaG Masters @ NCMP / #23 |

Freight rate in general have gone up an will continue to do so as long as fuel prices increase. Fuel is about 30% of the cost incurred to ship something. Fact o Life. Most carriers increased their freight rates 5% two weeks ago and on top of that the fuel prices are going up again. Double wammy. _________________ Tony Partain

I think if people found out you were a jet mechanic, they'd freak out. _________________ Sex is like pizza. When it's good it's great and when it's bad, it's still pretty good. |

Yes I know. Thats because USPS DOES NOT offer tracking.
USPS offers Delivery Confirmation. Which means that sometime after it's been DELIVERED you will get CONFIRMATION. _________________ www.dromophotos.com |
