Cr 125 Motor failure.

Just looking for some opinions.
At my last regional a month ago I had my first motor failure in 3 and 1/2 yrs in the sport. It was a good one, took the head and cylinder reed cage and intake was full of copper shavings so obviously lost the bottom end as well. I left the bottom end intact and the piston on the rod. I was a bit puzzled as to why I had lost the bottom end(metal shavings) since I had put new bearings, rod, crank and seals over the winter. I have put 2 pistons and ring it after every race and that was only my 5th race of the season. I've been in no big hurry to send it off for repair because I bought a complete new motor from my motor builder. But a few days ago I took the piston off the rod to find that the cage bearing was disintegrated and probably the intial source of the problem? I have seen 2 or 3 80's do this but never a 125. My question to all you guru's out there is this a common failure? Actually to answer a few more questions that people may ask yes I replace the cage bearing with the piston and no the fuel was fine because I share with my teammate and he had no problems.

How about oil? Was there oil in it? Did you have that lawn mower plug in it?

Also... did you shift through the gears or run 1st gear only and hold it down until it stuck? *grin*

John, Castor927 6 oz to the gallon in ERC. Also another guy ran off the same fuel mix all weekend no problems.

Benson, why did you caution him not to stand the kart up on end in the trailer? Is there something to watch out for there. Due to space constraints, my shifter and 100cc both use the RLV stand (on-end.)

No, not this year. We will have to see what our regional guy does for next year. The way this year has been going for me, I might have to run heavy with you next year.(the bummer of getting old)... Try running 8oz. of 927. That is what I use. Good luck in Wenatchee, maybe I will try to come down and watch.

By standing your kart up, you can loose all your oil that was in you lower end. Plus any dust that is in your pipe can fall back in on your rod. This is what an old time karter once told me. It sounded good.

Would be great to have you for some more competition. Field is a bit smaller this yr 6 to 9 is about all we have been getting. The S1 field has been huge but tough for me to justify running it giving up 45 lbs.

Two words, air box. When you raced at wenatchee did you race with out an air filter. I lost two bottom ends to that track. Some things that might help, more oil, and don't stand your kart up on end in the trailer.
