radiator duct

hey,
im looking for a used radiator duct, in good shape.
fiberglass or carbon. i need it to fit the VW radiator.
if anyone is interested in selling one please PM me

I was not aware that anyone had made a duct (parachute Very Happy

) for the VW radiator. Are you sure that this is the radiator that you have and that it is not a Ron Davis or Creek radiator? The VW radiator is junk (IMO) and you know if you have one by the screw on radiator cap and plastic side tanks.

yeah its the vw rad, it has the plastic tanks.

i cant keep the thing cool, but i think its becaus my silencer is freakin huge and is right in front of my my rad. so i figured a duct would work ok.

id like to have a new rad just because mine is real ratty looking, does any one have a recommendation? ive seen a few creek rads that i liked.

also, ive seen alot of guys running those ducts, do they make that much of a difference in top end speed????

Mike-

First off.. if you are running a single and have the pipe fitted to come around in front of the rad.. that is the biggest problem. No rad or duct is going to help. We had our pipe modded so the silencer runs up over the top of the RR tire... and we are also using the VW rad, though it is braced well so it doesn't separate (they are notorious for this where the metal and plastic meet) under stress.

We used a P1 Rad scoop.. it is big and worked very well... to the point where in 50 degree weather we nearly had to tape it up completely to get any temp. We felt the Cr250 would run fine with the scoop and the VW rad (we also used RC20 treatment to the water which definitely wroks better than redline).

To get the scoop to work we had to change the pipe location and clean up behind the seat so the scoop would come up out over and to the side of the right shoulder.

yeah, thats my biggest problem is the silencer, its so huge there is no place to mount it. i would like to just get i nicer small one, but i dont want to mess up the tune.
its a clocktower pipe and the matching carbon fiber silencer.
its given me nothing but problems.
could i just use like a generic motocross silencer?

I put a $60.00 VW radiator under the wing and canted forward to give about 6 inches clearance under the wing and very little drag. I chose a radiator without the cap and put a reservoir behind the seat. The radiator was narrow enough to run a small silencer between the radiator and wing support on the left side (Anderson AK frame - old Swift). I sealed the radiator to the back of the seat and used the right side pod to guide air into the radiator between it and the seat. The rear rotor was also in this airstream. The engine was cooled quite efficiently even in hot weather. I have heard a lot of negatives about the VW radiators but if properly ducted work quite well for a small price.
