Ted your exactly right!
Monday was practice day, I spoke with the West racing duo as the day concluded.
Johnny had a minor engine problem, I won't say exactly what went wrong but he'll be ready for the race tomorrow. Randy Johnson did bring his PVP laydown FE with BRC power, no report on how it ran today but I'll be here tomorrow to tell you all about it.
Until they line up my numbers are observations from the pits, 15 or so FE's....no info on IC/E yet. Scott Lowenstein (AKA Wentworth, IC/E) had a chain break, fuel pump quit and some other little gremlins but Scott assured me they will all be ready tomorrow.
Hang tight, more to come!

This mornings practice went much better for Lowenstein, he made some laps and seems to be ready for the unlimited race later today.
Johnny had a brake problem, they were "sticking" a bit so they went through the entire system and he also is ready to go.
Entries are still a little unclear, the guys just didn't have much time to look around with the work they were doing this morning. I did hear Johnson crashed the PVP laydown, it's believed to have happened on the very tricky access road out of the pit lane onto the track for practice. Not sure of the extent of damage but it was clear he wouldn't be running it today.
I expect a call from the speedway after race #4 this afternoon.
More then........

Guy's I got my info from Scotty, he was a little let down at his own performance so all I can say is Johnny won FE. The class was smaller than first reported, once again my source didn't really feel like talking so I didn't ask.
Stay tuned to the EKN front page or check out the Daytona paper online.

Were just having a laugh on you Reggie!
Spoke to JW from his hotel this evening, said he ran out of gas in Nascar 4 on the last lap and PUSHED IT to the finish line to win by 27 seconds!!!!
Lowenstein made 2 turns and his battery was dead? At least he didn't blow it up!!!!! He'll run again tomorrow as will JW.
Johnson had to run his Anderson after wadding up the laydown, he didn't fair very well. The laydown got repaired and he'll run it tomorrow also.

I don't mind!
John and Scotty are the ones taking time to call from the speedway. I just couldn't get there this year, it's nice to be included in their activity's. Even if it's over the phone.
Johnny is pretty sick actually, cough-cold-flu like stuff. He didn't go out to the SKI gig last night but he is at the track and his practice went good this morning.
Scott Lowenstein also got practice laps, he is looking to finish the Unlimited 2 race toady.
Randy Johnson is practicing the Anderson this morning, just a guess but the laydown must be damaged beyond repair at the track. He was having some problems but if I know RJ he'll get it right for the race.
More in a bit...........

Well, the 250 racing has concluded at Daytona for 2004.
The Unlimited 2 race was won by Ron Miller in his laydown single 250, that makes a sweep of the classes for Ron as he also won yesterdays Unlimited 1 race for the singles.
FE winner was Jim Brannon (Santa Claus!). Jim is a great guy, a true sportsman and a deserving winner at Daytona.
Johnny and Scott Lowenstein both had carbs fall off during the race, Scott made 2 more turns than yesterdays race and John had problems after just 4-5 laps.
Randy Johnson didn't fair much better than yesterday as he made many pit stops to make adjustments, just wasn't in the cards for RJ this year. I know how hard they worked on getting their Daytona program together this year, sometmes it just isn't ment to be. It was also very hard to keep his laydown project secret!!!!
One good thing about missing Daytona is I'm already home!!! For thoes still having the long drive ahead........ Safe journey my friends!
Thats it!

| One thing I'm sure you don't miss Rob is the DIS security staff. They were bigger dicks than usual if you can imagine that. Made us park our rigs a mile away. They never stop htinking of ways to make us feel less welcome. We counted 28 guards on Wednesday but not a single bathroom attendant!!! Anyway, as far as the twin class goes, entires were a letdown. The first lap of the second race, guys were driving like they were in Briggs Heavy at the local dirt track. Numerous pile ups on every turn. Somebody got into my side and knocked my battery loose on the second lap. A far as I could see, Santa Claus was the only one who was hooked up on day 2. Don't understand about Ramdy's laydown. I heard he crashed but the chassis looked fine as it sat in Kenny D's pit. Speaking of Kenny, he should watch the Smock the Bear Tapes since he could have started a forest fire as his kart burst into flames on the grid. |

| Congratulations to Ron Miller on his sweep of the Unlimited classes at Daytona. For those of you who don't know Ron, he's a former PP Can laydown guy & although hard to believe, this was the first time he's EVER finished a race in his 250. What a couple of races to finish! Like myself, Ron races on a fairly limited budget and consequently put everthing he had into making his kart ready for Daytona. His plan was to hopefully win Daytona sometime within the next 5 years... Good job Ron, your plan worked. I can't think of a more deserving person to win it. |

Wow, that's an awesome story. We met Ron in the hotel elevator and had no idea he was a 250 driver till we asked him what class he ran, then he goes and sweeps the class. What a magical week for Mr. Miller. _________________ David Cole

I guess dreams really do come true! Thanks to you all for the kind words and well wishes. It started two years ago with a couple of bucks and a semi-wrecked chassis that I had bought from a friend of mine. Through hard work, awesome advice, and great friends that believed in what I was doing are the reasons that I won last week in Daytona. Ever hear the term 9/10 preparation in the shop and 1/10 execution on the track. That was my approach. Made my job alot easier when I got to Daytona. I am just a small piece of the puzzle. Without the help of Don Bootes, Steve Young, the Warren family, and the crew at Stanton's Collision Carstar, this would have been a more difficult task. I am truly grateful to be around such awesome people. In the future I am looking forward to racing with my Unlimited counterparts. Hopefully with the same success. Being out there racing and having a good time is what it is all about! THANKS AGAIN!
