Clay, I have been at the New Castle track. I was there on the 3rd with a can and back on the 8th with a pipe. I am planning to be there on Saturday the 17th and Sunday, the 18th. I will be running a can in Masters. I did notice there were several Soniks testing there on the 3rd. I did not pay much attention to them on the track. I disagree that the track is tight; however, it is by no means wide open either. It is fast. Average speed in a TaG should be ~50 mph with a top speed over 70mph. Look for kart 42 in Masters.

Mike,
I was one of the Soniks there on the 3rd and the other is from our group also. I guess I came out wrong by saying it is tight. The actual track is nice and wide, but I was meaning that most of the track is technical and not long straightaways. I was refering to the rpm range of engines because they say to turn a Sonik at 16,500rpm and that is if your on a track where you might hold that rpm for a while. At New Castle, you hit your peak rpm for a few tenths of a second. I will look you up this weekend. I will be out there Sunday for the race. I am on a Monza and my teammate is on a Pavesi powered Birel. How early in the morning are you going to have to leave from Ohio since Dismore is opening the gates at 6am and practice at 8am? It will be an interesting first race. |

Clay,
What class are you racing at New Castle?. I thought that Dismore was not running a TAG class, only their own spec TAG with the edge chassis. The only class Dismore could offer me was the open 2-cyl where no TAG motor will have a chance. Is there now enough interest in TAG to warrant it's own class?
Thanks,
Jon. _________________ KRT Tracker |

Jon,
I am going to being running the Unlimited/Open TAG class. I don't know what I will be running against but I think it will be a lot more TAG karts than unlimited/open karts. I think Dismore will be surprised by how many Open TAG karts will show up. I am not too concerned with running with Unlimited karts because I will be judging myself against other TAG karts. Out of the two weekends I have been out there testing, there has been 5 or 6 Open TAG karts and only one of Dismore's Spec TAG karts. We will see what happens this weekend. So far it has been Sonik, Leopard, and Rok TAG engines at New Castle. Some Italsistem engines will show up soon for sure. It should be a good TAG field eventually. |

Clay, I believe I took a look at your kart on the 3rd. Silver Monza w/ orange body work.
The track at New Castle is pretty technical. It is also wide and fast. There are a lot of corners that are extremely fast and challenging. I think it will be a great track to race on.
I expect the Tag karts to do well in Unlimited and I wouldn't be surprised to see a TaG win it. |
