Okay, I know this has been hashed about in the past but ...
At the last Gatorz race I was hitting 16.6 at the end of the
main straight. That's at Buttonwillow which is a pretty long
track. From what I had been told, 15.9 is the target, leaving me
to expect exploding motor. So what is the real deal? What RPM
is best?

15,900-16,200 will generally give the fastest lap times at most tracks. It depends on where you need the peak torque the most. Some tracks may have a series of tight turns with one long straight, others may be a series of turns onto short straights.

I've seen these motors twist into the 17's and still be competitive, but not as fast if they would have been turning less RPM.

The leopard is a very durable motor, but more RPM = much faster wear. Too many RPM means slower lap times.

I typically turn about 15,000-15,200 actuall rpm on sprint tracks. This is usually not the max reading on the gauge as it will come from a bump.

Between 15,000 and 16,000 is the range that the engine best operates in for most tracks. I have seen rpm spikes of 17,500 from the downloaded data from my Pi system.

I once saw 21,000 when I put a 10 tooth driver on and forgot to change the axle sprocket. Although I can't verify this rpm, it is what the display was reading at the end of a 900 foot long straight. Needles to say I exited the track and made a change.

The easykart engine i run is very similar to the leopard, just that its air cooled....Our max revs are suppossed to be a a few hundred rpm's over 15,500. any more than that and u might kill the motor in the "short or long run". The best answer i can give you is to contact parilla itself and ask them. they should be more than glad to tell you.
